Hey I want to stop taking medication all together. I am supposed to take 3mg of risperidone a day but i havent and I’ve been feeling I guess ok but I feel a little bit imbalanced and just a small and seriously just small dosage of paranoia. Do you honestly think I can leave the rest of my life like that or should I give meds a shot for a bit
If you were diagnosed with a psychotic disorder then you really should stay on an AP.
Discuss it with your doctor.
Honestly it would be wonderful if no medication would work. It’s ky dream. But i don’t advise that route. It leads to a nightmare. And psychosis causes long term brain damage.
You can use suppliments on top of medication to help.
Talk to your doctor.
All the best. Please take care.
Probably should talk to your doctor
Sorry didn’t mean to permote anyone going off there meds. Just pointing out we are all at risk of loss so probably not a good idea but definitely get the doctor involved.
ok i took my meds a couple days ago and then i stopped and now i think i having insomnia what should i do
I would continue to take medication
You might be very ill without it although some people only have one off episode
You need to consult your psychiatrist and he will tell you the right thing to do
That’s a good choice but please consult your doctor first. They’ll provide you with a tapering schedule.
I think it’s important to take your medications as prescribed by your doctor. If you’re having a hard time and feel you’re having a bad reaction to the medication you could always go to the emergency room and they could see whether or not you could go off your meds. Just stopping your medication can be dangerous and harmful. Please consult a doctor. I wish you luck.
I tried the “eat healthy/herbal” bit and ended up unemployed and homeless.
Please stay on your AP.
I also tried the ‘eat healthy/herbal’ thing - it did nothing much to improve my SzA situation.
3 mg of Risperidone is a lot. You shouldn’t stop that without a doctor tapering you down. It can be very painful to go through withdrawal.
If you are serious about getting off meds, you first need to be stable on the same dose for a year and a half. That is what most doctors recommend. If you’ve had no symptoms in that time, then your doctor can start tapering down your medication slowly. Like 10% every two months. It takes a long time to get off meds this way, but it is the only way that has ever been successful for anyone.
Talk to your doctor, and stop tampering with your meds on your own. If you stop meds on your own and relapse, your original dose might not work anymore. I did that, and now I need twice as much medication to stay stable. Don’t make that mistake.
I’d ask your doctor about a different med if the one you’re on isn’t suiting you. It’s all trial and error.
Without meds you could end up thinking you could fly and jump off a building.
Herbs/etc have no antipsychotic properties to protect you from doing that. That’s why the meds are called anti-psychotics. They protect you from becoming psychotic.
You’re risking your life by coming off antipsychotic meds if they’ve been prescribed for you in my opinion.
Man I have tried coming off meds cold turkey and have screwed up each time.
its hard to find info about what herbs work and which don’t. “the meds come from somewhere people” anyways I just started using thyme leaf tea, I feel it soothes the head and may be beneficial for my sz. herb/nutrition is what i’m going to try without the meds sometime soon, good luck to you whichever you decide
Not sleeping is likely related to the stop of medication. Many people suffer sleeping and eating problems going on, changing, stopping a medicine.
I am not certain what you are doing is totally safe for you. Please becareful especially if your MI made you very delusional or paranoid or suicidial.
If you had any of the 3 symptoms above in a severe manner you may require hospitalization if it comes back. Have some kind of safety plan if you insist on doing this.
Maybe if you dont like a particular side effect, you could ask for a reduction of dose?
Keep yourself safe.
I think you should give meds a shot. Change them if that improves things for you but for gods sake don’t come off them! I have been on meds for a year now things are great!
I do this eeeeeevery time I start feeling good again and then the next thing I know I’m living in another state, am engaged to two different people, and am signed up to volunteer in a country I can’t even pronounce.
There’s no reason why you can’t stick with it AND do healthy eating.
If you want to go off meds consult your doctor. Withdrawals are hell and also if you go off them it’s best to have doctor supervision so if something goes wrong it has less of a chance of blowing up into something worse.
if im not feeling no side effects or have no effects of withdrawals is it actually needed the meds
