Learning German

I am a complete beginner and started learning German today!

I have learnt the nominative.accusative.dative, genitive (N/a/d/g) with the definite articles (the) and indefinite articles (a)

I also learnt the demonstrative pronouns such as this/these endings using the N/A/D/G

I also started with duolingo.

Looking for a practice mode to really instill the definite and indefinite articles into stone, but I don’t think duolingo does it like that.

Has anyone learnt German before? Where did you start?

I am using ‘Practice makes perfect’ books of Basic German, Verb Tenses and a Vocab book and the duolingo at present. Anyone know a better method?

I used to be friends with a couple that spoke German but I stopped being friends with them because they held beliefs that I found to be offensive.
They tried to teach me some things. I can’t remember any of it.
Good luck with your studies!!!

It is crazy to me that the indefinite article has 16 ways to say the word ‘the’. The same applies for ‘A’.

The endings can be worked out using the same formula for both, but still. 16 words for ‘the’

I did quite a few exercises on Duolingo today.

Picked up a few words. Mother, father, sister, brother, son, daughter, wife, husband, bread, wine, coffee, tea, milk, you, are, is, my, very, tall, nice, and, or, yes, no, jacket, bag, please, thank you…

Did some pronounciations too…

Have you been to Germany
My dad was in the army
We lived two years in Hanover and two years in buckeburg.

I have travelled to Munich a couple of times, visited Berlin on the way to Prague by train.

No long stays though.

Do you speak a little German then?

I’m learning German on duo lingo too.

I want to become a German tuition teacher. Maybe.

I think it’s got demand in the country where I live.

When I become a bit better, there’s a thing in my country where they pair you up with a foreign German speaker in my area who wants to learn English so I teach them English and they teach me German!

How did you learn that phrase.

It’s like I know ashloch, ■■■■■■■, and lights off, lights out. Cos my dad tends to say those things as kids growing up with him. Lol

I was 10 when I was in Germany and I heard it at the army school

I learnt a little bit a while ago. Just simple words and phrases. Stuff like: guten morgen, ich heiser ozzyskitz, ve heisen sie? Not sure about my spelling but thats close to it. I always thought german was the most hectic sounding language out there. And some of my ancestors came from close by there.

Learnt how to form the verbs to be, to have and to become, and cemented what I learnt on duolingo the previous days.

You can’'t say much until you know these irregular verbs. I will learn how to form the regular verbs tomorrow.

Wrote out the verbs over and over again until I learnt them by heart.

i didnt study german at high school
so when i tried to learn it when 2 years ago or 3 years ago
i find it very hard language
unlike french which i studied at school
now i am B-1 in french
i started 9/2021 now i am B-1
so if i think if you studied german at school
you may find it easier to learn than those who have no idea about and didnt studied it at school
my advice
read anything you like at german read read …
memorize as much as you can . repeat vocabulary for 10 times at least by ur tongue write on the vocabulary on pc or on notebook . dont make your memory adapted to lot of repeating
listen to tv channels that is in german … the easiest channel you like … this channel may be news channel … may be movies channel … any channel …you will not understand anything …but by the time you listen and understand more and more …
listen and read and memorize vocabulary …and

and podcasts and dw has site for learning german

This time when tryng to learn German I have the advantage of having learnt Spanish to an intermediate level. This means I have experience in learning a language this time and can handle it better.

Once I have gotten over the 16 words for ‘the’ and ‘A’ the language seems practical enough. English is my first native language and there are qute a few similarities in structure so far from what I can see.

Thanks for the advice.
