Latuda (lurasidone) - is it strong?

I suspect my current meds are crapping out on me. My doc in the past mentioned latuda. He said you can lose weight on it. That would be great.

But I remember some people saying they found it one of the weaker APs. Anyone got any feedback on this med?

Its not that effective medication. Clozapine, Amisulpride, olanzapine and Risperidone seems to be the most effective while Aripiprazole is medium in terms of efficacy but has good side effect profile.

I would advice lifestyle and diet change. I’m on clozapine but I’m losing weight right now.

I’m switching from risperidone to latuda, right now I’m at 80mg latuda and 1 mg risperidone.
I definitely find it to be on the weaker end.

The side effects have been minimal, and I’m losing weight.

The bad, is I feel under medicated, and the voices have been coming more frequently.

I want my Pdoc to raise my dose

I was able to quit Latuda cold turkey and didn’t experience withdrawals or anything.

I take Latuda 120mg. It seems to work for me about as good as anything ever has. I still have some problems but overall i am doing okay. That is how it has been with most meds though. I find that it isn’t as sedating as Seroquel XR was. I have managed to lose weight on it. It has given me akathisia though. At 140mg it was worse but my pdoc backed me off to 120mg and prescribed propanolol, so that is less of a problem now.

I take 40mg latuda and it stops most of my hallucinations, at such a low dose! It has been really good for me, no side effects and I am losing weight too.

I take a very low dose and it helps with my mood but I put on weight with it. I also take a high dose of Geodon though so I get plenty of antipsychotics.

I was on latuda 100 mg and I found it did not work for me. Yes, it tends to not cause weight gain. I had terrible akathisia on it. I feel like it’s better for schizoaffective.

I was on risperdal and 180mg of latuda. Latuda was not doing anything.

I was on 120mg of latuda. It’s a good med, especially for mood and quieting the brain.
Unfortunately it made my legs tremble constantly and that led to really bad akathisia.
I was on propranolol then cogentin but eventually I just had to give up.

I’m sensitive to medication and they put me on latuda. I don’t think its a strong one, but my positive symptoms are being managed effectively. I imagine if I was worse off they’d send me to a different drug.

I’ve had Akathisia on a fair few meds so, I’ve always taken a tablet for it, and so far its been managed effectively.

I’ve also begun losing weight. I’m down about 20 pounds.

My biggest problem with Latuda was that it required you to take it with 350 calories. Since I take night classes, I couldn’t take it otherwise I’d be knocked out for class because it was sedating for me. Didn’t gain wait but also continued to have delusions and hallucinations on it (even on 80-100 mg)

Strong in what regard, potency? Side effects? The word in medicine is effective. An antipsychotic is either effective or it is not effective.

Oral antipsychotics all are relatively the same in terms of effectiveness if taken in equipotent doses. There are some issues that complicate their effectiveness as some meds are metabolized differently and some individuals are more or less responsive to the medication. Obviously the number of pills you take will define the dose, or strength.

I was on 120mg latuda but recently came down to 80mg.

When I was first put on 120mg I got severe jaw clenching that was awful and benzotrap did not seem to help nor did muscle relaxant.
Thankfully the jaw clenching just stopped eventually.

I am doing really well on latuda and am stable and was stable even moving interstate etc.

I feel a bit overwhelmed by making myself dinner but have managed so far and find it easier if I do it early afternoon and keep it pretty simple.

I still feel uncomfortable socialising and avoid dinners where conversation is expected.

I do not have voices, delusions or paranoia and am doing well.

My brain feels damaged and fragile at night and I feel like I need care but I am doing well.

My brain feels extra fragile around medication time every night.

I was on olanzapine before latuda.

Olanzapine I think is a good medication but it made me gain 24kg.
I have a normal bmi on latuda but would probably have been slimmer if I was not on any medication.

When I took latuda in the morning I would feel pretty tired and stagnant but not now I take my full dose at night time.

Hope you will find a medication that works for you.

I did well on it for 18 months until I got Akasthsia. I was on 111mg a day.

It got to a point where it was unbearable to take it. The 350 calorie thing was also a bit of a pain.

I progressively lost weight on it though.
