Latuda Info and experiences

About a month ago, after being sent inpatient and feeling that I was on too much, I stopped my Haldol cold turkey. Since then I feel I have managed fairly well but this past weekend I got into a bit of a psychotic state.

My doctor wants me to try Latuda 20 mg. He believes it will also help with my depression. I’m worn out from always trying new treatments that get my hopes up but don’t work, aren’t sustainable, or cause worse issues than they treat. So, I’m hesitant to try anything new.

Has anyone tried Latuda, how long does it take to feel effects? 20mg is a low dose, I wonder if it is even high enough to treat psychosis? Does it make anyone too tired to function, or cause parkinsonian symptoms for anyone?

I’m on 120 mg of Latuda, and it works great for me. No side effects that I know of, and it helps greatly with my positive symptoms. It does make me the slightest bit drowsy, but I take it at night so it’s no biggie. But everyone is different, so keep that in mind.

I’m interested in trying Latuda (lurasidone). It is approved for bipolar depressive episodes, and I’ve read that it may help for cognitive impairment. The antidepressant vortioxetine is also interesting; it shares some actions with lurasidone.

I’m on latuda, the minimum dosage for psychosis is 37mg, the biggest problem is that usually you have to eat, take it and go to sleep. It can cause akathisia for a few hours after you take it. For some people it also makes them throw up.

Latuda gave me bad nausea, sometimes I threw up.

That’s helpful, thank you. How long did it take to get up to a dose that seemed to work for you? I think my doctor is starting me at 20mg because I have a lowish weight. But, I was taking 6 mg Haldol before I went off. Sorry, that’s not really pertinent I’m just frustrated.

I’ve read that as well. My doctor wants to start me at 20mg, I think, because of my weight. But, I’m frustrated because I just want something to help. When I went off the haldol I was taking 6mg and, from what I can find, the equivalent would be 60-80mg Latuda.

Do you recommend taking it before bed? My doctor said to take it in the morning, but I can’t risk being too tired or foggy.

Mmmm it is possible that if you take it in the morning you’ll feel bad all day, for the first day I would take it after dinner, stay awake 3-4 hours and see what side effects you get so in case you get very drowsy like I do you can just go to sleep. If you see that you don’t get drowsy you can take it in the morning the following days.

Did the anhedonia from haloperidol go away?

I started off at 80 mg, if I recall correctly. I kinda forget, I’ve been on Latuda awhile lol. But it took awhile for the Latuda to work – I remember 80 mg not being effective for me. But now I’m on 120 mg, and take 3 mg of Vraylar in conjunction. The combo works very well for me.
