Latuda as an add on?

I am experiencing lack of motivation and possible bouts of depressive episodes where all I want to do is eat and sleep on the couch.

My psychiatrist asked me if I were willing to take some Latuda alongside my current AP of Risperdal.

She said that this could be an option for me but she would rather that I stick to my regular cocktail of Risperdal and Depakote.

Anyone else taking Latuda as an add on to their regular meds?

I took 80-120mg Latuda alone for a year and with Risperdal for 2 weeks. It didn’t help with negatives and caused bad akathisia and bad nausea. Nothing can be done for negative symptoms.

Does it really help with depression?

Depression or negatives? It didn’t help with negatives, I don’t think I have depression bcz my psychiatrist tried Wellbutrin and it just made me worse. Maybe another user who has real depression can answer you.

Latuda is the only medication that consistently helps with my depression.

I take a small dose. 40 mg. I also take 160 mg of Geodon. I take Wellbutrin also.

I don’t know if Latuda helps with psychosis but it helps with negatives as much as Wellbutrin does.

The first time I took a Latuda I actually felt cured that day. Unfortunately that only lasted one day but it still helps.

I tried it and had severe weight gain. Like 40 lbs in 2 months.

That’s good to know that it helps your depression and negative symptoms @anon95278303 and @TomCat.
I suffer with both.

Thanks!

Unfortunately @Vertigo I started to get lack of motivation again on my latuda. But its worth a try. It might be different for you.

It may help with my residual paranoia.
I don’t know. It could be worth a try.

I noticed no difference on latuda so the pdoc took me off of it

Try Abilify it helped my negatives slightly but I had addiction and hypersexuality issues from it so had to stop it. Maybe try Rexulti too.

I was on Abilify before for a while and it made me extremely anxious and paranoid.

My doctor said that Latuda can cause anxiety as well.

This is why I’m reluctant to try it.

I’ve thought about asking for Rexulti as an add on. They’ve been saying on tv that it can enhance previously prescribed antidepressants. But I’m afraid it would become one more pill I’m dependent on, and I’m not really depressed anyways.

@Vertigo I will soon try low dose Latuda 60mg to improve negatives, it didn’t help before bcz I was on 120mg. I will take antinausea pills with it to not vomit. I hope I don’t get positive symptoms or akathisia. I had akathisia at 80 and 120mg.

I will take the 60mg Latuda alone, nothing else.
I hope it improves me a bit. Some here are stable on 60mg and some even at 40mg.

@Vertigo I was suffering from depression and lack of motivation a year ago. My doctor told me this could a passing phase and there are ups and downs in life so just force yourself to do things even if u don’t feel like doing it. I tried my best but still was depressed. He then lowered my Risperdal from 6mg to 3mg and added escitalopram for depression. After about a month or two I was back to normal. Now I am on my normal dose of Risperdal i.e. 6 mg. Don’t know if Latuda helps as an add on therapy but it gave me terrible akathisia once I tried it.
