I was diagnosed at age 40 . Has anyone else experienced late onset schizophrenia. What are your thoughts ?
I was diagnosed around 39. The way I look at it is I stole a bit of life until then.
I was 38 when I got sick. It happens at that age although I have had some medical professionals tell me it’s not possible. I have had all the symptoms at one point or another.
I’ve heard the later the dx the better the prognosis(barring very late diagnosis i.e 60+).
I had my first positive symptoms at age 35 but I continued working a while before seeing anyone.
I finally accepted my diagnosis at age 36 but symptoms started earlier than that. My thoughts? Geez. I guess I feel better in some ways that others do and worse in some ways. There are days when I feel completely normal again. Then there are days, like today, where everything is a trigger. Although, I’m scared about being well too. I have hope that I can work again, function close to normal for extended periods of time again. I’m learning that my pills and coping skills really do work. I used to think that nothing worked.
I was diagnosed at 37 late onset of schizophrenia.
Symptoms started in my teens, lived with it self medicating til I was 32 and had a major break. Wasn’t diagnosed til then. Lived almost 20 years unmedicated.
