My mental health has been bad since I’m a kid. But I was misdiagnosed and my sza slipped under the radar until I was finally diagnosed properly at 47. (I’m 49 now.)

I was diagnosed at 47 with psychotic depression, then at 49 the diagnosis changed to schizophrenia.

May I ask what symptoms you had? Have you found meds that help?

No it’s super rare, I feel like I got it late at 30. Most get it in their teens, can you imagine going through high school in your first years of this?

It’s uncommon to be diagnosed with schizophrenia past 40 but it happens, especially with women.

Do you know why it’s super rare?

No I’m not sure, I’m just going by the statistics I read when I spent a year researching the disease online constantly. It seems most common in high school and college age people but statistically if you make it into your thirties without it, your chances of developing it are lower. You can still get unlucky though.

I think its more common to have an episode of psychosis at an earlier age around 23

I was 42 when I was diagnosed with schizophrenia, but I had had hallucinations since I was 26 years old. I just slipped through the net I think.
