IDK about other parts of the country but here in Northern California, almost every time you go to a fast food restaurant you get a receipt with a coupon on it for free food. Usually it’s BOGO. And today was no exception. I went to Krispy Kreme today and got a receipt for “buy one dozen, get a dozen free.” All the restaurants work pretty much the same: You go to their website, enter a 15 digit validation code printed on the receipt, take a short survey and at the end they give you a 5 digit number you write on your receipt. Then next time you go to that restaurant you present the receipt with the 5 digit number and claim your hamburger or chicken sandwich or whatever. McDonalds had these, Burger King has these, Wendy’s had these etc. And Krispy Kreme has these. So after I bought my two donuts I got the receipt and took the survey and pulled in the drive-thru window. It was screwy right off the bat. I pulled up and a lady says, “Can I help you?” I tell her I got a coupon for 23 free donuts. She didn’t ask me any questions or anything, she says to pull up to the window. I thought it was weird but whatever. When I got to the window it was some 35 or 45 year old lady. I showed her my receipt and she goes, “You have to buy a dozen to get a free dozen” I knew that. She tells me to back up to the menu 30 feet behind me so I order 22 donuts that I’m going to take to work tomorrow for the soldiers since they always give me food they put out. I orders and pulled up to the window again and get my dozen doughnuts and asked for my free donuts. The lady grabs my receipt and says “Oh no, you have to call the phone number on the receipt. W
We used to have a Krispy Kreme here. I always thought the donuts were too sweet. Yeah the coupons are nice. Not bad at all.
Really. Did you call the number?
That’s what’s crazy. There was no number to call and I told her that. She pointed to the 15 digit valadation code and says that’s the number. That was a valadation code, not a phone number. We talked about it for five minutes. I don’t know why they were lying and making sh*t up. I pulled away and called another branch and a nice lady told me they were wrong and that was weird. I pulled in again and this time they gave me my donuts. I asked then what was all that bull about s phone number and they played dumb and confused. Idiots. I know I didn’t do anything wrong or weird or anything.
I try to have lots of patience for clerks in the service industry but sometimes you wonder what assistant manager they had to screw to get their job.
Patience is a virtue but it is also a constant test.
Sorry you had a hard time. The clerk obviously hadn’t heard of the deal and was worried about giving you a bunch of stuff for free.
I’m similar to you though, when someone messes me around I feel like I did something wrong even though I also know I didn’t do anything wrong.
Least they got it right the second (or technically third) time.
False advertisement.
