when I was in the emergency room awaiting transport to the psych hospital the er doc gave me a ketamine treatment. The whole thing is a bit of a blur but I do remember hallucinating quite a bit. I remember the er doc trying to explain why he was giving the ketamine to me. I remember him being very loving about it but I don’t remember the explanation. I do remember his eyes turned into puppy dog eyes and then melted off his face. I also remember telling him it felt like I had died and gone to heaven literally. I was glad this life was over. But alas it was just another hallucination. I’m trying to decide if I’m going to seek further ketamine treatments, it really was frightening. But now that I know what to expect I might have a better trip. And I did feel unencumbered afterwards. What do you think about ketamine treatments for those with a psychotic disorder? We spend so much time trying not to hallucinate, it seems funny to then go do it on purpose.
I want to try a ketamine treatment. What is the purpose of it though. Like what is it supposed to do? To make you more at peace with things?
its supposed to open you up so you can let the gunk out I guess
Hmm yeah I do feel like I’m a little wound up mentally.
it does relax you afterwards
Were they trying to treat depression with the ketamine?
I think there’s a possibility they could help to change a persons outlook on life for the better but there may b a risk of the opposite happening, especially with schizophrenics
yes, I believe so. I presented with suicidal ideation/attempt
From the illegal sphere ketamine is pretty brutal. I’m not sure it’s a pleasurable experience but anecdotedly it forces you to disassociate ?? That was the description I got from hearing 1st person experiences…
It has promise it seems for depression but it seems pretty extreme! I’m not sure it’s something you’d want to do regularly @Leaf ! But that serious laid in depression is hard to shake!
Quite interesting. The part that starts at 8:10 from Yale Univesity is quite intersting (potential side-effects of ketamine seen in rodents).
I don’t know for sure. I was only able to find that it can cause psychosis. I couldn’t find any reference to it alleviating psychosis, unlike its reported effects on alleviating treatment-resistant depression when properly prescribed and administered.
Ketamine is a dissociative anesthetic that is in a similar class to PCP or angel dust. It has recently made headline news. Apparently there is evidence that it acts as an anti-depressant. Some studies have shown in severe treatment-resistant patients that ketamine provides significant symptom relief after a single dose within two hours. It’s effects can last up to one week. There are potentially dangerous side effects and further research is needed.
I am not aware of this drug ever used for treatment for psychosis. This video addresses some common questions about ketamine:
