Should I consider or look into this? Its listed for bipolar depression as well. My depression has lifted recently, but it seems to come back off and on…related moreso to my situation and environment, and I am sensitive, but I think it could help me build functional resilience, Im just not too certain how much I would need, if it would be productive, or if I can work through it without anything helping me other than Abilify as I have been trying to do.
You don’t need ketamine yet. You need to fully comply with your medical team and consistently take your meds, and try CBT. Ketamine is an extreme measure. And it’s not really used for ptsd. That’s what therapy is for.
There is an ideal therapy for post traumatic stress disorder called EMDR. (According to the DSM-5). You should try that therapy.
I doubt it is an option unless you go to pricey clinics.
I dunno. I’ve had ketamine as treatment for pain, not depression. It was not pricey. But I’m sure insurance would have to approve it.
Yeah perhaps wishful thinking. I tend to feel happier when I am “manic” I smoked a couple bowls of weed, and I was shocked that the internal pain I was feeling simply melted away. That met with good thoughts helped, but I had to block out the anxiety first.
I dont know if Ketamine would be helpful if its more intense than MJ and Im already that hyper sensitive to weed tbh. My gut reaction is my trauma is not severe enough to require it at the moment so maybe that would be counter-intuitive.
If it helped with my nerves, the ear ringing, neuropathy that would be nice.
I have never had therapy work like that before, and weed is legal in NYC but Im not prescribed it and the quality isnt the same unless you have a medical card…and I think you still need a NY medical card to purchase quality medical grade cannabis.
I have been compliant for the most part. I take it every morning and they make sure I dont miss it because they come to my room if i were to sleep in. This week has been difficult with being around my parents and their stress. I wouldn’t try the ketamine therapy if it were to set me back, and from what I read so far its not researched a lot in terms of those with pre-existing conditions like bipolar and schizoaffective.
I dont know that my psychiatrist would prescribe THC. I do have chronic pain, trauma and neuropathy but I dont know if its severe enough to qualify for help. I’ll be honest though in a medical sense marijuana does help, in small amounts, in certain times only for that reason. My mom probably smokes too much it but she has serious pain and is recovering from ankle surgery, she has medical card.
I was just asking about this. I want to do it.
Thanks @anon55031185 i just checked and maybe this can help my spouse with his pain.
If the weed doesn’t help you, you got to stop doing it. It’s true for anything. If the fill in the blank doesn’t help, then don’t use it. There are other ways of helping ease your depression. Therapy is a great start.
I experience chronic pain, so I had a medical marijuana card for a year. It did help with the pain, but did not help me mentally, so I stopped using it. So I understand that there are reasons to use marijuana that are beneficial. However, I think you are addicted to the stuff and that’s really dangerous, as overuse can be very harmful.
I really encourage you to try therapy for a full year, and they can teach you how to manage your ptsd and depression/anxiety in ways other than self medication. Take your meds regularly and be open with your medical team. Not one thing is the answer to everything, but multiple factors will greatly improve your well being.
Ketamine is a dangerous drug that you can get addicted to. If you have an addictive nature it is not a good idea.
I will try therapy for a full year. But I think you got me wrong about weed. I have been completely sober for the past 6-8 months and I can count like 5 times I have actually smoked a bowl or joint in this entire time frame. thats not addiction. It really helps me, but I can easily not smoke and took a break intentionally. I tried some fake $5 joint from a cornerstore and it made me ill. But then I tried a bowl of my mom’s medical grade and it was a different experience. And thats it. Nothing else needed to say. I was actually shocked it helped so much so quickly. Didnt affect me too much, but too much of it would be counter-intuitive.
I dont know any medications that are as effective of that experience. I have a muscle disease and I have chronic PTSD issues, and recurring depressive episodes, mostly related to unresolved --trapped–emotional pain…and anyways, there’s a top psychiatrist in NYC who I am inquiring about to treat with ketamine. But overall, I think THC would have been more effective and at least I know exactly how it would affect me.
I can tell you about my ketamine experience in pm if you need. Just drop me a note if you desire.
Yes, you just want to be careful with marijuana as the thc can trigger psychotic episodes at various times. Even if it works for a while, it can cause sudden severe psychosis. Just be careful using it. That’s all I’m going to say.
Yes, if you go the ketamine route you need a good doctor watching over you. Don’t try to obtain it illegally.
