My psychiatrist recommended it.
It’s an opiod, right? Similiar to Kratom. It’s like a whacked out benzo imo.
I have to research it. I don’t have any information on it yet.
It can cause schizo - like tendencies in high doses. Are you using it for pain?
Ketamine is a dissociative similar to dextromethorphan though less intense and is better for treating depression than dextromethorphan (which is whats in cough syrup, robotripping etc).
Either DM or ketamine are good for pain. But mostly, especially ketamine, is used for depression. Or either one is used if you like tripping.
No, I would be receiving it to treat depression.
Have you tried Latuda for depression? Imo it’s better than ketamine and I tried both. Ketamine will improve your mood but will leave you couch locked. Ultimately, you and your pdoc know best, I’m just throwing a suggestion.
Yeah, I’d been on Latuda for a long time. I overdosed while on it. It didn’t help my mood. Thank you though.
@anon57786250
Why does ketamine leave you couch locked? Did you receive it by iv? How many treatments did you receive?
Where are you at that you can get this IV ketamine? Do you live in the US?
Nope it’s a disassociative It makes me sick every time but still works. If it was an opioid my med naltrexone would completely block it. However instead just makes me sick. The depression aspect works on opioid receptors. But it’s a chemical compound derived in a lab. Last time I did it was feb 12. I didn’t crush it up enough and it hurt my nose. I used it recreationally and it helped medicinally but it sucks like every other illegal drug to me. They’re interesting experiences but just not worth doing in the long run. Ketamine is gaining noterietery as a medicine. For long it’s been a party drug. People will mix it with mdma and go to raives. But now it’s been gaining popularity in medical use. Interested to hear. My friend said it helped his depression for what it’s worth.
@brandotron
Yes, the US. My psychiatrist offers it in his office.
How did you get prescribed it? Is it expensive?
My psychiatrist prescribed it. I’ll ask him the cost and let you know. There are iv ketamine treatment centers that you don’t need a prescription or referral for.
Is your depression treatment resistant?
I am pretty sure it is, if my Wellbutrin has been working then it took over a year and a half to work ha.
I am pretty sure it’s treatment resistant but I’m not really willing to go back on a slew of SSRIs to exhaust options and find out. Wellbutrin is pretty mild stuff to me, I’m on the highest dose and have only just recently ( as in past 2 weeks) not been depressed. If I stay that way I would be ok with that but it wasn’t long ago that I was thinking about suicide about every day.
I’m still not good at talking with my doctor about depression. Even though I have had suicidal thoughts for months and months I have not once brought it up.
I’m sorry you don’t feel more comfortable being open with your doctor. What are your reasons for not sharing?
I don’t want to have a suicide evaluation done and/or end up having hospitalization. I just don’t feel like going down that road.
I’m sorry you have to suffer in silence. I see a counselor, psychiatrist, and two iop therapists. I don’t tell the iop therapists about my suicidal thoughts for the same reason as you. But thankfully, I can speak openly with my counselor and psychiatrist.
I hope there is some way you can explain to your doctor that you need better treatment without going into the hospital.
Do you think you will look into iv ketamine?
If I knew I could get it and it was affordable I would look into it. I guess I haven’t had my depression derail anything other than my mind so that is why I keep stuff in more.
Let me know how it goes and also, you have schizophrenia correct? I am just wondering if there is a risk for psychosis from this or if the dose is low enough it doesn’t matter.
I understand.
I have schizoaffective, bipolar type. There is a risk for psychosis.
I’m not committed to trying it. Just researching for now. But if I do, I will let you know!
