Keeping intrusive thoughts at bay

Idk if anyone can do this and i’m not sure if its me or the med that helps but i am able to control/block certain negative intrusive thoughts, atm its a lot of things around covid19 and climate change but when i get these thoughts i tell myself i shouldn’t think about them bc it would not help the situation.

so what i do is i start looking for ways to help and this helps me to stay positive.

how do you guys deal with intrusive thoughts?

If it’s just a certain word that replays in my head I find if I look for a positive word with the same first letter I can swap the intrusive for the positive quite quickly. It’s hard always being so on my thoughts.
Phrases are trickier; I just pin it off as intrusive thoughts and hope for the best. The one thing I will not do under any circumstances is ruminate over them and judge myself for them as that makes it worse!

I find it sometimes helps to trembleshake my head for a couple of seconds. It kind of resets my mind a little bit.

It’s fine to post here. I’m not sure but I think most people with sz or psychosis deals with such thoughts from time to time. For me it mostly when I have been unmedicated. I still get a little of it though, but I am usually able to fight it off. Helps to keep the mind occupied, watch a movie or read something. Some times I challenge the thoughts/voices which also helps, like asking sceptically why I’m thinking what I do and telling myself to get my act together. When I’m off meds it doesen’t work though, then it gets too strong, but I usually manage to keep them at a acceptable level on meds.

My psychologist kindly explained to me that everyone gets intrusive thoughts, but they just don’t obsess.

It kinda helped me learn to just ignore them, and they have since become much less of a problem

She showed me a study, but I’d be ■■■■■■ to know what it was called or who wrote it!

When you get those thoughts try playing some mind straining work, exercise, gaming etc. You can notice that at that time you have no other thoughts in your mind. This way distract yourself from those intrusive thoughts all the time. Not let it control your actions. I mean not do any activity (compulsion activity) to get rid of intrusive thoughts instead do some other activity so you find it hard to focus on such thoughts.

yeah, i hear you, i try and distract myself as much as i can, keeping occupied and engaged with something focuses the mind on the task at hand and detracts from any other thoughts, i am usually busy but i still had a few sneaky unwanted thoughts popping up,

this is probably true, i am just going to try and let them pass by like a cloud, i think its just with everything thats been happening lately i have had a few breakthrough intrusive thoughts.
