It sucks how your life can change in an instant. I just got a letter from the State of California saying Medi-cal will no longer be paying for a list of weight loss drugs including the mounjaro I’m currently on. It starts in January of 2026, I’m shocked and bummed, I keep reading how people who go off weight loss drugs regain all their weight. I have the option of asking for a hearing.
Being fat isn’t the end of the world
Yeah that sucks @77nick77 but maybe you’ll be able to control your weight without Mounjaro.
Wait… don’t you have diabetes?
Your prescribing doctor might be able to contest the insurance companies actions by stating that the Mounjaro is medically necessary for you.
It’s worth a try
Yes it is, literally.
Nah there are other meds you could take for blood pressure and what not
This is true. Good answer, @Wave !
I was over three hundred pounds. It affected me in many ways. It’s depressing to think I might go back to that.
@77nick77 when I stopped weight loss medication I gained all my weight back and more. My appetite shot through the roof.
Restarting the weight loss in a couple of weeks time.
This time I won’t come off it. But I have to pay out of pocket.
Its not just about blood pressure. People that are morbidly obese do indeed have a shorter lifespan if they dont get their weight under control.
I feel for you, @77nick77
In the meantime while you try to get it approved for your diabetes, what I have been doing to control hunger is I eat plain rice with a lean plain protein like chicken, egg whites, or tuna.
It fills my stomach for 2 reasons: rice expands in your dtomach, and protein helps your energy and satiety over a longer time than carbs. Veggies help too and you can mix them in the rice and protein.
I used to have diabetes but completely reversed it eating this way. I take 20 mg of olanzapine, 1 mg of risperidone, and 20 mg of citalopram.
I hope you find a solution soon.
