Job hunting blues

Been out of a job for about 2-1/2 months and so far a couple of interviews, but that’s it. Been spamming employers on indeed.com (and occasionally LinkedIn) but so far only a few nibbles. Also trying to sell my house at the same time (big financial burden) and occasionally trying to figure out if I can make some money on the side.

(Background: Dx’d SzA 20 years ago, but no relapses since and went off AP’s a year or two ago. Previously held an IT contract position with a local utility for 12 years until I got let go…for job hunting no less.)

A lot of websites say that you need to ‘network’ to get a job, but I don’t have much of a network and I hate bothering the connections I do have. This is a combination of low self-esteem and a fear of abandonment…if I ask too much of people, I’m afraid I’ll lose them.

I don’t feel in danger of a relapse, but I can feel my mood sinking as the days go on and on. Not really sure how to improve my odds of landing a job. I’ve also looked at other ways of generating money (a ‘side hustle’) but I don’t think I have the marketing or organizational skills to pull that off.

Any suggestions or thoughts?

Don’t be afraid to reach out to people if you need help. It’s all give and take. And you can help someone back in the future. Maybe your friends can help you find a position
