Several years ago I saw George Foreman interviewed on The Tonight Show. George Foreman was the former heavyweight boxing champion of the world in the seventies before he left boxing. You guys probably know him best from the George Foreman grill. He is considered one of the hardest punchers in modern boxing history.
He had retired but he attempted a comeback in the ring in the nineties when he was in his mid-forties. It is almost unheard of for someone to box professionally at that age, let alone for a World title. But Jay Leno was cracking jokes and having a conversation with Foreman. Foreman had a fight coming up and Leno asked him, “Is he a good fighter”?
Foreman replied, “I sure hope not”!
This was hilarious because when most fighters are asked about their opponent they will say something like " He’s a good hitter, he should be a challenge. I hope it’s a good fight and I hope he is a great fighter". All the usual BS. Because pro athletes like competition.
