Yet I find atheists often don’t care, the complete other end of the spectrum.
It kind of seems like a coping mechanism of sorts

Well u may find it interesting. a lot of people that believe in reincarnation believe your memories are wiped when you cross over into the physical world.
and that there’s an interval period where we have time to rest,on the spiritual , where you have access to all memories from all lives,
I tend to think that if it eases pain and suffering then believing in an idea can serve a good purpose regardless if it’s right or wrong. But if those ideas cause you to make bad decisions then it’s not good. I personally have more of an awe for the universe as my religious feeling, kind of in line with what Einstein spoke about than anything else.
