It's hell today

They are testing the fire alarm at my apartment building and setting it off every ten minutes. I’m staying at home because of a FedEx delivery.

The maintenance guy just came by to test my alarm and told me they don’t have a key to my door. He wants to come by and get my key this afternoon to make a copy of it.

I’m getting paranoid about this that he will take my key and not bring it back.

They just said over the intercom the elevators are down until further notice for inspection. I just got a email from FedEx saying my package was delivered. It’s not outside my door, so I hoping they left it with the security guard.

I’m really nervous.

oh that would make me nervous too… why does he want to make a copy of your key? That sounds weird…

He said because the office doesn’t have a key and mine is the only one.

They normally have keys on everyone’s apartment so they can get in when you are not at home.

ah ok, so it’s not anything shady? Like they gonna rob you when you are out?

No. It’s the maintenance guy who is employed by my apartment building. The office is supposed to have a key to my apartment.

ah ok, then it’s ok =)

Yes, but I’m still worried about him taking the only key. I won’t be able to leave my apartment until he brings it back.

I wish I had made a copy of it myself and put it away somewhere in my apartment.

I always have a copy of a key at a trusted neighbour. Just in case I lock myself out.

Yeah. I should probably do that.

Everything is resolved except for coping my key. There is a hardware store three blocks from were I live that makes keys. I hoping the maintenance guy doesn’t come by and get my key. I’m going to the hardware store and making copies myself Monday morning. That way I don’t have to be without my key.
