@eduvigis being an American …how do u view Sz as…?? U have seen a lot of pdoc A big drug making pharma like Pfizer elililly…when is going to be cure coming ??? is it earliest 2050.??? like something 10 15 years…?? cuz i come from 3rd world country…?? don’t have any idea…??/
Now with the internet being widely available, 3rd world countries have access to the latest news and information, so Americans are no more informed than we are, @far_cry0.
Even if negative symptoms are caused by a loss of grey matter, all is not lost. There are means now to stimulate neuron regrowth, but haven’t yet been tested on humans, except for spinal cord regeneration which I think is at the forefront of this field. But in years to come we will see a blooming of regeneration methods and it will eventually impact psychiatry as well.
But I agree, when we are ill, the time passes so slowly, slowly… every day is like a nightmare and we can’t wake up.
My cousin lives in Uganda and has sz, he’s on Haldol because that’s all they have. It’s much harder to get medications in a 3rd world country isn’t it? My uncle lives in the village and has sz, he has never been on medication and has managed to survive, but he lives a very simple life. When I was in Uganda this summer I wanted to meet him but he was wandering around the village and we never found him.
Its much easier in America, but still when you go to the hospital you meet people who live very bad lives. Many areas in the US are similar to a 3rd world country, filled with poverty and hard living.
I think it is easier for some people to have schizophrenia in the U.S. but still many people have limitations from the illness. At the end of the day we are all in the same struggle. The medications we are prescribed are the same as they have been for half a century, people on this forum are still on Haldol, at my last hospital stay I met a guy who was on Haldol. So there hasn’t been a lot of innovation when it comes to medication and we all suffer from that regardless of where in the world we are.
If only these drug companies could come up with something that would allow us to manage without so many side effects, then maybe schizophrenics all around the world can start to live full lives. A drug which treats negative or cognitive symptoms is very overdue, I feel like my psychiatrist is deluding himself into thinking atypical antipsychotics treat negative symptoms. He doesn’t even feel guilty that he is sending people home to deal with serious issues.
My friend @far_cry0 if min 101 gets launched on us in 2020 i still have to wait 2 to 3 years. That’s why i cant wait that long… I need another option for now
I have to say be strongly patience…U can check vraylar if it is launched soon in Europe…!!!
If I were you I wouldn’t put all my faith in the newer medications, most of them are me too meds or patent extenders. Basically repackaged meds with the same effects and sfx.
U are right.!!!..we have to make our own way…but i am little worried about its side effects…!!!
my negative and cognitive symptoms are at worst condition …!!! these day i dream SZ med are being as effective as diabetes medicine …!!!
I’m like you, my negative symptoms don’t just go away. But I’ve only been sz for a year and some change. But I feel like my cognition and anhedonia have improved. Do you feel like your neg and cog symptoms have gotten better over time?
My negative symptoms especially memory has somewhat improved …otherwise all the symptoms are same they remain unchained …!!!
My symptoms have remained unchanged too. I don’t have much cognitive distress, only negatives which are very strong.
Hey Andrey try petting dogs are cats…they say animal assisted therapy can beneficial for negative symptoms…just my 2cents…!!!
Lol my pdoc works the same way. He is convinced that abilify can treat my negatives. I complained i feel a lot of the negative symptoms and asked him if there is some med for the negs and he tells me you are taking abilify for the negative symptoms ![]()
Last time i went there he told me you are all right you are happy everyday right? I told him no. He actually believes abilify takes neg. symptoms away. This is crazy
My worst issue is alogia (poverty of speech) and verbal fluency deficit from the cognitive symptoms. The other symptom I suffer from is a lack of interest and a profound lack of spontaneity. I have no sense of novelty or adventurousness. My negative symptoms are not what people usually report on this forum, I think I am alone in suffering from this specific cluster of persistent symptoms.
I don’t think negative symptoms are irreversible. There are the mood stabilizers which decrease negative symptoms of some people. It’s also said that some negative may be caused by APs (my negativr symptoms increased just when I started to take my APs / maybe it’s just a coincidence, but who knows). I still have hope.
I already have a dog and 4 cats. It doesn’t help me
Mine gotten worse after i had psicosis again because i had stopped taking meds for a year and half the i got psicotic again and then the negs and cogintive impairment just got worse.
Lol, I know what you mean. Many psychiatrists have strange ideas about the medications and the disease (at least mine does). People on this forum have even said Abilify made their negatives worse!
I’m on Abilify. It doesn’t make my negatives worse, it’s basically neutral.
I am trying abilify this time…at this time i would like to say we all need anti_Schizophrenic pills…!!!
I’m on Rexulti, Abilify’s little sister. I’m still titrating doses but on occasion it makes me really psychotic. I might have to go down to 3mg again.
