It’s time to make it legal for Americans to order prescription drugs from abroad

Every day, countless people across America order prescription drugs from pharmacies in other countries as they hunt for something increasingly elusive — affordable medications.

But there’s a problem. Under most circumstances, importing medicines is illegal.

And it is time to scrap this prohibition, unless Congress finds another way to drive down drug costs.

Consider this: Sixty percent of Americans say lower drug costs should be a top priority, and a whopping 72 percent support the idea of importing medicines from Canada, according to a recent Kaiser Family Foundation poll. In fact, 8 percent of adults surveyed reported that they or someone in their household have already bought prescription drugs from outside the U.S.

Meanwhile, the cost of 20 widely used drugs is three times cheaper in Canadian than in New York pharmacies, according to PharmacyChecker.com, a website that vets overseas pharmacies and compares prices. And as drug makers regularly hike prices — sometimes to sky-high levels — or set steep price tags for the newest treatments, more American pocketbooks are pinched than ever before.

Big pharma spends hundreds of thousands on each senator in lobbying. If American politicians wanted to reduce the costs of meds they should reform their political system.

Taking on the pharmacies to try to make meds cheaper is one campaign promise I hope President Trump pursues.

I don’t understand why in the US the prescription drugs are so expensive, here in Italy they cost 2 euros a box and if you are seriously disabled they are free.

This is the winner!!
I’d give you a hundred likes if I could @Jimbob, could you please run for our next presidency?

politicians should be paid a flat salary 40k and if it was found out they are taking cash on the side they should be exiled to the Mojave and shunned for the remainder of their evil little lives… they should be required to work mon-fri 9-5 with 1 weeks non paid vacation… but yes we should be allowed to order most drugs from where ever they are cheapest… minus pain killers…

Plato suggested politicians get nothing more than a few very personal items, like underwear and a drinking cup. Everything else should be basic and owned by the state. Working for the good of the state should be reward enough; if it wasn’t, you weren’t fit to govern.
