I just spoke with my psychiatrist and she said that my fatty liver is not caused by the Depakote.
My family doctor said the same thing.
They both blame my diet and diabetes but I also read on multiple sites that Depakote can cause fatty liver disease as well.
Am I missing something?
Are they misinformed?
Something is not right here.
I may get another opinion.

I don’t know how long I’ve had fat surrounding my organs (gallbladder liver)
But I just found out about it through an ultrasound recently.
Anyway I made an appointment to see this nutritionist, to improve my diet for diabetes and obesity.
She’s an MD also.
Both doctors told me I have to lose weight.
My psychiatrist told me to eat less carbs.
I have a fatty liver too @Wave.
It’s from obesity.
My diabetes is also from the obesity.
I also have fatty liver disease. Not sure what caused it. I take Clozapine and Haloperidol, but no Depakote.
I’m on Depakote too and while it’s hard on the liver, it does not (according to docs) contribute to fatty liver disease. #1 suspect is diet.

I’m still on risperidone and Depakote.
I’ve been on this combo for years.
Keeps me out of the hospital.
That’s good. Depakote is a good med for me too. Really helps the long mood swings. Stay out of the hospital; goal #1. I’m here if you ever want to PM me.

I think there misinformed. I read somewhere that it can cause fatty liver.
I’ll trust my doc rather than a random poster saying he saw it somewhere.
