I was waiting in line in Walmart. The guy ahead had a lot of groceries. This elderly woman approached me from the side, and I didn’t know what she was doing. I gathered that she wanted me to move, but I didn’t know which direction. If I moved forward I would have violated the six foot space we are supposed to maintain when we were shopping and socializing. I think there was somebody behind me, if I remember correctly. So I didn’t move, and the lady moved on. It wasn’t until today that I realized that she wanted me to let her ahead of me in line, which would have been difficult, given the tight quarters I was in. It was part of that deal that older women sometimes pull of wanting to cut in line because they have so much to do. I would have more respect for that if they didn’t single me out every time they want to cut in line. They don’t do that to any of the other people in our assisted living center.

Good job. Doing your part.

You did the right thing.
She should have verbalized her wishes before expecting you to read her thoughts and move. Then you could have explained the issues to her.
