I was on 5mg Ability for a number of years to control my psychosis. But I had to have that dose upped to 7.5MG due to a depressive ep (not due to psychosis). Some say it is too low to even treat psychosis. Is that true?
Everyone’s different, but generally speaking, Abilify needs to be at 15 mg or more to treat psychosis.
I have 25 mg. At 5 mg there was no effect on me. But everyone is different. Some are more sensetive to some medicin and not to others.
I was on Abilify for years - it actually promoted psychosis within me.
Anything under 10mg will usually not touch psychosis - 10mg is the minimum dose for psychosis control - usually it takes doses higher than 10mg for controling psychosis.
Give it some time to see how this dose will work for you. If 5 mg worked for years on controlling your psychosis then there is no reason to think that 7.5 mg won’t continue to work.
If that’s the case, why are you going back on it?
I think that the word promote is the wrong word to use - I was given Abilify after a pretty hefty destabilzation period - I was taking carbamazapine/Tegretol along side the Abilify. The Tegretol was rendering the Abilify less potent by reducing the Abiify levels by 70 percent in my boodstream - Now that I am no longer taking the Tegretol, the Abilify should work better,
I dont think it is a matter of the Abilify triggering psychosis - its more about the Tegetol eating away at the amount of Abilify in my blood stream. Now that I am no longer on Tegretol, my doctor and I are hoping that the Abilify will work better - be more effective this time around.
i am going to give it one more shot and hoping that this is the case and it is not triggering psychosis in me, the first signs that it is triggering psychosis - I will quickly switch meds - not staying on it for a long time if there is some psychosis
What works for you should not be changed I think. I’m on 25mg of Abilify and my psychosis is under control with it.
