Is lucid dreaming bad?

A friend told me that lucid dreaming could be harmful to our psyche. Could it trigger a psychotic episode due to the fact that a lucid dreamer is taking a look into his subconscious?

So long as they’re nightmares then I don’t think they’re bad.

I never had lucid dreams, and Im schizophrenic since I was 12 years old

Then you missed an amusing experience my friend.

What is the difference between the 2?

i lucid dream i have no problems with it. i look forward to them.

No. There is no evidence that I know of that lucid dreaming can cause mental illness.

Some people can have lucid dreams, most people cannot. Lucid dream means one is aware one is dreaming, and can control the content to some extent. The dreams are vivid. Patients with narcolepsy are more likely to have vivid dreams as well as hypnagogic hallucinations (vivid dreaming before falling asleep or after waking up). Lucid dreams by themselves do not cause any other problems that I’m aware of.

There’s been times when I wake up and think my dreams really happened. Once I get Properly medicated I don’t have that problem.

why do you think it’s terrible after @flameoftherhine, because you have to come back?

I often have lucid dreams… but most especially have them when I’ve spent the day intensely visualizing and trying to solve various complicated problems. Just had one last night. It was so real, I thought I wasn’t going to wake up!

i have them often and i can make my self wake up from them or fly in them, they are a lot of fun. a couple times i’ve had a dream in a dream. where i thought i woke myself up from the dream, everything seemed normal, then weird dreamy stuff start happening and i realized i was still in the dream, then i did wake myself up for real. it was different.

The best dreams are the lucid ones, where you’re semi-aware of being in a dream and can control the outcome. They feel as real as this reality sometimes.

Eating some vitamin b6 before bed can increase the likelihood of a lucid dream.

Recent research has found that lucid dreamers tend to sleep more lightly, so their sleep may not be as efficient. However this doesn’t mean the lucid dreaming is causing the problem, the problem is the brain’s sleep center. That’s from the scientific standpoint.

From my personal standpoint as I have been a lucid dreamer since I was a young child, I would say yes it has been hazardous to my mental health. However I think this is because of my psychosis I don’t know if it would be as bad for someone who didn’t have psychosis. I tend to confuse my dreams with reality and see the events that happened in them as real and thus they have a strong emotional impact on me. Meanwhile they can also make me depressed, as I live with godlike powers in my dreams and wake up to a world where I’m just a regular person. They’re so awesome though…

I’ve had bizarre lucid dreams.
Like In a dream I was in this bar, then the people in the bar looked at me, and said “he knows”. Referring to I know it’s a dream. So I replied “I do know.”
Then I chatted to a couple people. They were pretty blunt when they spoke.
I even changed the height of my barstool with my mind powers.
Then they told me the dream maker was coming to wake me and I needed to get out of there so I escaped into some random white room.

Anyway that’s one of many :joy:

@finally I had that once, a dream within in a dream, that was really the weirdest thing ever haha!

I’m not trained to have lucid dreams, however I have it with time, it really is great to have some control over my dreams. I also am partly awake when a lucid dream happens and notice the noises that surround me (like if someone enters my room or a car that passes by).

I find that lucid dreams are refreshing and satisfying.

Exactly… ive traveled far and met many others… earth is a trap.

The difference between the two for me is lucid dreaming is like watching vivid movies…astral project i literally am pulled out of my body and travel straight up through the rainbow bridge… it leaves me exhausted like i traveled very far… coming back sucks.

All that is non sence bro… One time I woke up inside my dreams. My back was facing the ceiling. The room was completely black! Idk but my senses told me there was like something inside. Then I heard the x files theme song inside my head. (I used to be scared of that sound when I was 15ish) at the same time I felt like if tentacles starting to go through every hole I had. It felt wrong! I screamed help help God help me! Then I started hearing voices in my head! Do it for me, do it for me. Then a female voice said brainwash him. I tried screaming louder. And then I woke up again. It was the most real experience I have encountered with an alien or demon. Whatever it was that is scary.
