I’d say it’s better here in the States.
Getting on disability for a schizophrenic disorder is a lot easier here.
Most people get accepted.
Plus we have a greater variety of meds and options for different doctors and hospitals.
In Arkansas USA it’s religious or charitable not-for-profit organizations caring for people. Government services are pretty bad. My income is too high to qualify for food, SNAP, or medical, Medicaid, assistance.
I don’t see my disability pay as “assistance” as I worked and paid Social Security taxes on my income, a part of those taxes went towards disability insurance. I only get Medicare, medical insurance, from the government now, which everyone gets when they turn 65.
I belong to a non profit charitable organization and they offer things like free case managers and supportive housing if one day I’ll need this.
That’s what I receive for my psychiatric care.
There’s a lot of charitable organizations here in the States.
I don’t think there are so many in Western Europe but I could be wrong.
It’s differently organized in Europe. The States depends more on Charity. In Europe it’s organized by the Government.
It’s worse in eastern Europe
Well here in the States we have Medicare and Medicaid but I don’t qualify for Medicaid because I have too many assets.
I have Medicare and I’m able to get my meds and see doctors for very little money.
The only thing I don’t get help with is legal aid. My income is too high. I got a Public Defender when I went to court to be involuntary committed to the psychiatric hospital, but that’s all. I get legal help only if I am criminally charged.
Here it’s the same. If your income is too high you can’t get a Pro Deo (free lawyer). I only once had a lawyer and payed him 150€ per hour. I’ve heard legal fees in the States can be painstakingly high.
Legal fees can bankrupt you here in the States
I think the USA give a lot more money for disability,
than Greece.
I take 315euros per month, and an average rent
for house is 350-400 euros.
At least I can pay my psychiatrist, my meds
and my cigs.
Right, @laros ?
I prefer to have the government care than rely on charity organizations. I wish the us government had socialized medicine. The bill from Biden being debated held back by two democrats would have a huge impact on my life and many peoples lives in the states.
I can’t really speak for All of the U.S.
but I’d say it’s rated poor in my state,
and the governor has been asked about it
on Iowa Press, but she skirts the answer
to seem like, Well maybe we can do that,
I’d have to talk with other legislators.
I think the U.K. is good if you have a serious mental illness. Total disability benefits I get 4/weekly is £2116. this includes £816 for my rent. (House is in a beautiful, historic town.) So this means I have £1300 a month income. Our of this with food and utilities/bills I pay about £400 a month. Thats all my bills. I have £900 a 4/weekly month disposable income. I’ve been to one medical assessment in 19 years and they said I was severely disabled and shouldnt of been called.
I get 21 hours one-to-one support a week from personal carers/support workers in the group home and access to 55 hours shared between 3 other people. This package costs social services £780 a week. I could get this direct payments which means I receive the money myself and fund my own staff but I choose to go with a support company.
Because I’m on the highest disability called PIP I could get a brand new car every 3 years, with tax and insurance added and they will take £50 a week of my disability allowance.
I get all my meds for free, All health care for free including dental care which is of a very hight standard. I’m on Invega depot 150mg with is a expensive drugs in the states. I see my community nurse every2 weeks and have done for 6 years. I attend a NHS days centre 4 days a week. At no cost at all.
It’s horrible in the USA. You’re treated like a criminal. Made homeless. They help sex offenders stalk you, because you’re not working. After they ruin your health and make you fairly crippled, they claim you’re a fraud. I was a 100 pounds lighter before my health was screwed up and then when you can hardly do anything; call you a fraud. They also deny you honest health care. Also people lie about you and try to frame you for things, the people claiming you’re a fraud, do.
Wow - and with the US being the richest country on earth, we are the stingiest in helping our people. I would be a UK citizen in a heartbeat for that kind of care.
I wish I qualify for Medicaid this way I could go to a Nursing Home in the future.
Without Medicaid Nursing Homes cost hundreds of thousands a year!
If you are poor here in the States you qualify for Medicaid and some government assistance.
If you are rich here in the States you have nothing to worry about.
But if you are middle class you are screwed.
