Is it true that too much dopamine causes depression?

I read that online. Stimulant abusers get depression. Sz naturally increase dopamine, is that why lots of szics are depressed? I think I was depressed when I was off APs. I never get depressed on APs thankfully.

I thought depression comes from a deficit of dopamine. Stimulant abusers get depressed because they drain their dopamine levels with the stimulants.

Yes thats what I just read, taking too much stimulants decrease natural dopamine production and raises the dopamine threshold dopamine receptors work at which leads to depression. You’re right. So too much or too little dopamine can cause depression and is bad.

I take Wellbutrin as an ad. It boosts dopamine. So I think it’s the other way around.

I wonder if those on antipsychotics have the opposite to those on stimulants where we overproduce dopamine due to a depletion whilst on them when we come off meds?

My pdoc said that some people get paradoxical effects from the some of the meds and that there isn’t a strict correlation between the chemistry and the psychological. Some people react to a med in the opposite way to what’s usually expected.
