Or is that just a stereotype
We don’t have as much time off as people in Europe do - frequently new hires get 5 days of vacation, if they get any at all.
But also, the US is huge, and I could travel the equivalent of Finland to Spain and every place in between and never leave the country. My cousin just moved back from Denmark, and he could cross the country twice over in the time it takes to cross my state.
Americans also like to take cruises to the Caribbean
I’ve never heard that stereotype before. But I don’t see how that could be true. We have a billion airports with a billion planes flying people all over America and all over the world.
I’d love do that someday
My friend in Belgium was telling me we should take the next 5weeks of my “holiday” and travel all around Europe together discovering these delicious shops with sausages, cheeses, and vino.
I was so ready to quit my job and go with her, but I couldn’t.
She was very surprised to learn I only had 1 week off, and had to go back to the USA in a couple of days.
It’s surprising. I used to get 21 days off and 8 public holidays. So 27 days.
I don’t travel much no. I can’t afford it. Same goes for my family, if we travel it’s to see family, usually for some kind of big event and my grandparents help pay.
It’s easier for Europeans to travel you can just drive everywhere. If we want to go anywhere cool we have to take an expensive and long airplane ride. Even just driving across most states takes forever, unless you’re in the northeast with all the tiny states.
I think car drive time ive had more time in America… airtime is mostly international waters… bus travel Germany… train travel is Europe… I have no horse travel time… walking time is also Germany… boat travel time is either Italy or Germany… and America is so different visiting a diff state hell sometimes just up the road in the same state feels like going to a diff country… I like travel…i imagine china is probably the same way…
Car time is the US, train time is either France or Japan, air time is Japan hands down, boat time is Ireland and Wales.
that sounds amazing… is japan as awesome as it is in my head?
A lot of what determines how much Americans travel outside their country is the exchange rate for the dollar. It costs more to travel overseas these days. As for traveling within America’s boundries, I think you have to take that on an individual basis. The price of gas affects that. I always liked visiting the Grand Canyon, but, being on antipsychotic medications, I couldn’t hike down into the bottom of the canyon like I have in the past. That’s one side effect of the med’s I kind of resent, but I know what happens when I get off my med’s.
In France I used to have 35 days off, not counting national holidays. Oh la belle vie…
I moving to France
I suppose it depends on Americans, for example in 1996 I and my American wife traveled
Feb 1996 A skiing trip in Rocky Mountains and Denver
April 1996 A trip to Jamaica, Montego Bay and so
July 1996 A trip to Miami
August-Sept 1996 A trip to Arizona and then to Sonora, Mexico
Nov 1996 Venezuela and again Miami
I suppose it all depends …
Sure, but lately it’s been a bit insecure with all those terrorist attacks.
Hasn’t England been even worse in that regard?
I don’t think so. Overall there have been more incidents involving radical Islam in France than in England. Nice, Rouen, Paris (several times) and the list goes on.
I remember when I was in America in the 1990s, once I had to fill out some forms for some purpose and they asked me to list my international contacts, but I had thousands in over 50 different countries and so I stopped filling out these forms, I was very active in America, my life was different then … I still have these contacts on my another Computer, I remember ćounting how many Holiday greetings I sent during some time, 6200 and my former American wife sent none, … it was different then …
Typical travel for Americans is probably to get their remote. That sometimes can be too taxing a job so they often will gripe at someone else to get it for them. Possibly even begging for telekinesis to unfold so that they never have to move again.
