Aspiring to Go back to school in fall of 2023. If all goes to plan I will work until then as a janitor . Hopefully 3 days a week instead of 7 like my last janitor job. I value days off. I’ll Live at home. I will Read practically every book we own (no need to buy more). Then I will move to a city and attend a specific college I already know is good. I’ll be like 33 by then kinda old to go back to school. But I had a professor once told me never give up on school!! She said she had 60 years old students and not to give up on school. I wanna major in English. And Minor in religious studies which they offer
Lamictal is really helping. Much more stabilized mood. I can do anything with it. And I feel confident I don’t spend money as much anymore either. Hoping to save money over these years.
Seems like a worthwhile aspiration to me. Good luck.
I think it’s great that you’re going back to school.
But be aware that going back as an older student is not the same experience.
My best friend got her undergrad degree in something dumb,
Couldn’t get the kind of work she wanted.
She continued to go into masters programs for years,
Then decided she wanted to be a doctor.
At about 35.
She said it was straight up weird in her classes.
She’s out of school now,
And glad for it.
You should give it a shot,
Just know that it’s not going to be like your first time around.
Ok fair enough. It’d be nice to have some degree in something. And I can’t live at home forever but I’m enjoying it now. I think school would be a good structure. Job is good too but school is a different kind of structure. Not sure if I would wanna do both. Start off 2-3 classes and working maybe. See how it goes before I go almost full time seeking a degree if I ever did. This is a real college town. They have a lot of colleges like Yale. If I could live there and mix it up between going to school part time and working too it might be real good in a few years from now .
Also I love learning so college makes sense
Do you have a scholarship or student loans you can use?
What would you use your degree for?
I haven’t applied yet so idk. Haven’t even got in. We’ll see. Id probably use my degree for whatever I figure out. I don’t think I need a plan going in. If you have passion you have tons of passions. I just need some time to figure it out and A degree can’t hurt
I first went to law school at 33. It’s doable. I wasn’t the only older student. You likely wouldn’t be either.
Go for your dreams. You’re not going to regret trying in the end.
Well, the average age of a community college student is 28 years old. I also read the average age of a college student is 26 but it didn’t specify if that is just four year colleges or the average for all colleges.
I take online classes exclusively now. But I attended community college from 1990-95 from ages 30-35. I felt I was older than most people but it didn’t feel weird and there were people my age or older in my classes or just walking around.
You can do it.
