Is caffeine fuel on the fire for sz?

After reducing caffeine I’m less psychotic in the evening. I hear voices from other apartments and think they talk about me. It’s less now.

Maybe there’s something to it.

I read that caffeine leaches calcium from the body and is a strain on the kidneys, at least in ppl sensitive to it…

I don’t know if it affects sz.

I keep hearing that but not read a scientific journal on that before.

I prefer tea to coffee. It tastes so much better and doesn’t really have that effect where you feel jittery with coffee

I read that when people consume over a certain amount of caffeine, they start getting symptoms of psychosis. I think the amount is pretty high. But perhaps for some people with sz and caffeine sensitivity it can worsen it.

What is the source of that information?

it says the evidence is limited, so my mistake.

edit: also not for all people.

I just remembered reading years ago that some limit like 400mg caffeine (or some amount) could cause psychosis. That’s where I had it from.

I definitly think it can be a problem with high doses for people who are sensitive. I drink 1-2 cups green tea daily. Which is about 40-80mg. At this dose I think it benefits me with with alertness and better cognition.

I had to quit caffeine due to the tachycardia that clozapine gave me and didn’t really notice any change in my psych symptoms, just the standard withdrawal symptoms (headache, etc).

I’ve consumed a lot of caffeine for decades. I’ve done so much of it that it has almost no effect on me now. My dependency on it is mostly psychological. The body builds up a tolerance for stimulants quickly. Sometimes caffeine has a calming effect on me. I retreat into my fantasy life, and all is well with the world.

Caffeine over 600mg makes me talk a lot but no psychosis, I have taken 1000mg several times. Don’t go over 400mg thats what i am doing now

I quit caffeine the beginning of the summer and it seemed to decrease the people in my head. After about 2 months I started drinking about a cup a week. It still seems to correlate to when I hear people in my head, and other things too, like being somewhat lost. I am still struggling with quitting entirely as it is one of the only things that make my life better. I think that other things will improve if I quit but it will take time.

EDIT: This could be considered weird because I used to drink like 15 cups a day

I drink 3 cans of coffee a day. I cannot quit it because I’ve lowered the amount of cigarets I smoke to the half. Besides I’ve uppered my dose of qutiapine to 800 mgs. And for the first time in years I notice some weight gain on my tommie so this morning I must go to the grocery store for veggies and oats and a little bit of meat and I must keep the habit of walking around 2 miles every day.
Qutiapine is the only solution to me so I must do what ever is in my means to avoid weight gain.

I’ve gone the opposite.

Less booze and more caffeine. Noticeably more and probably been having 6 cups of instant through the day. Average 4 in the morning and 2 in the afternoon and my sleep and symptoms have been great.

I’m older and my symptoms have been in decline for a bit but still. It’s suprising more and deeper sleep from adding more caffeine. I"m sure I’m in the minority but just thought I’d comment. We are all different with the chems.

I suspect that caffeine in my tea causes pin prick brain sensations. I’m going to go off it for a while.

For me yes,
My massive caffeine intake increased my paranoia greatly
I have now given up the coffee, this year,
And the thought broadcasting wasn’t anymore noticeable.
I go as far too say very early childhood social anxiety and coffee created my schizophrenia

I drink a pot in the morning, a pot in the afternoon, and a pot when I get up in the middle of the night. doesn’t affect my psychosis whatsoever.

‘‘Yes, caffeine can lead to an increase in dopamine levels in the brain. Dopamine is a neurotransmitter that plays a crucial role in regulating mood, motivation, and cognitive function. Caffeine achieves this effect by blocking adenosine receptors in the brain.’’
