I emailed Otsuka Pharmaceuticals, who called me, took my question, put me on hold, then transferred me to their Canadian office, who said she’d get back to me with an answer, but never did.
I’m not sure if it’s considered a major tranquilizer but I know that many people find Abilify activating. It doesn’t make me feel sedated in any way
That’s the way it affected me. They eventually had to take me off it because it got me a little too amp’ed up.
Made me activated and have less negatives as well.
I didn’t feel tranquilised while on it. It just made my major depression worse, so I came off it.
I’ve only taken abilify for a short while, but didn’t find it sedating. Other ap’s like clozapine and seroquel are way more sedating imo.
All anti-psychotics are classified as major Tranquillisers as far as I know
I think pdoc are trying to distance themselves from the term tranquilliser. That term implies it brings tranquility and we all know it’s not that sinple
Yes, all antipsychotics are classified as “major tranquilizers” especially the original typical AP’s.
It’s an old term and rarely used today.
I’ve taken them tranquelizers for 15 years. I’m going to ask my gp for morphine to make it up to me. Jk
Major tranquilizer was a term used in the 70 s. To describe the very tranqulizing sedating effect those meds had on those who used them. Minor tranquilizers was a term used for benzodiazepines. In the 90 s the atypical antipsychotics were introduced to the market. These were not nearly as tranqualizing as the old ones. In 2003 are new kind of meds came on the market. The so called 3. Generation meds. The first were abilify and that was much less tranquillizing than the 70 s meds.
