Is anyone on Red Note?

Did anyone join the Chinese social media app Red Note in anticipation of the TikTok ban?

It feels like a weird cultural experiment if you’ve been over there.

It’s been engaging talking to the Chinese people, having some cultural exchange, and learning some Mandarin.

I’m not sure what will happen but at the moment it’s been interesting to see.

One thing to note is you cannot discuss politics or criticize the Chinese government. I have also heard you cannot advocate for LGBT folks either. For those reasons I will not stay, but the experience has been enlightening.

The videos of Chinese children welcoming the “foreigners” have been heartwarming. This morning one little girl played a piece on the piano as a gift to the TikTok refugees.

One thing that I do like about the app is that it is a social network made up of 70% women. It’s great to have female spaces.

This will be a short lived moment I’m sure, but it is an interesting experiment at the moment.

Commercially, I don’t trust a country that floods the world with so many counterfeit products

I also wanted to ban TikTok but I’m worried all the people who leave it will flood YouTube and fill it with Shorts which I freaking hate.
