Is anyone in U.K. on benefits and has morgage?

Does anyone in U.K. have a morgage and is on ESA and PIP. I’m thinking of buying a small house with my PIP.

You guys must do pretty well over there that you can afford to buy a house on a disability check.

I am. I went for a shared ownership mortgage though. They wont pay you housing benefits for a mortgage. It is tricky though. You are only allowed to save £6k before they cut off your benefits, and there are plenty of things that could go wrong on a house that cost more than that. I currently own 35% of a house, and I pay out about £290 a month to live there, plus being a modern house, all the bills are cheap too.

what is ESA and PIP …what do they stand for

Employment Support Allowance and Personal Indipendent PaYment

How can you afford a house on pip? Thats insane. I can’t afford to rent.

I thought about doing that but i was told i’d need a job and be working for about 5 years to qualify for a mortgage

That is just to take out a mortgage. I dont actually have a mortgage at the moment, I just own 35% and pay rent. That being said there are options for people on benefits to get a mortgage.

You cannot rely fully on PIP.

I don’t know how long you have on your award but I am worried they will take it away next April.

I live very good on my PIP and ESA. Because I’m in supported housing I don’t have to contribute anything in rent to my housing provider.
