I am sort of. I install the Wordpress content management system into a site and then install a free theme pack that I like the look of. I tweak its appearance a bit and I’m good to go.

I’m in the same boat as you.

I did pretty well in web design in college, would be nice to relive those moments again.

There are various types of websites on the Internet. Most are commercial, some are non-profit and others are for leisure of personal use. Depending on what category your website will fall under, the more hits your website receives the more security, design and consistency the website needs to be.

it would be a personal website, i wanted to install php on a server and make a website with a guest book. i feel less gun hoe about it right now really, but eventually i would like to work to get that done.

Well, who is your personal website targeted towards? A guest book for what type of users? Web hosting costs money whether you have your own Linux Server running Apache & PHP or have a cloud provider host your website.

Being a Web Master of a website takes skill & experience. Word Press is easy to make web pages with. But without a purpose of your website of whom which segment of a users market you are aiming for. There is no reason for you to have your own website is there?

I have a degree in web design but I didn’t go that path after college. I planned to make a portfolio website coded from scratch with html and css a while ago but I haven’t gotten around to do it yet.

The new editing system for inputting content is slick. It is based on blocks now. You can put in image blocks, table blocks, columns, spacers, paragraphs. Whatever you want. You have much more control over how content is presented.

The plugin manager is much better and the theme packs have really improved. You’ll find there are a lot more pay options now. There are still lots of free things, but they usually have an upgrade available for a price.

What’s wrong with building something just to see if you can?

Well, for hosting a website. There does need to be a name and purpose for it. Just as traditional brick and mortar stores have a big sign advertising their name and what they sell.

Unless one has never built a website and is totally new at it. “Hello World!” on a particular domain name might prove some skills.

There really doesn’t. People can build stuff for fun as a purpose. Also, what you think is a purpose for running something isn’t a purpose to someone else. I run a popular online radio station. People think I am in it for the listener count. I am actually running it just for myself. I like having a radio station that I can listen to anywhere that only plays stuff I like. That others like it is sort of a happy accident, but not important to me.

@anon82948922 Online radio stations need a purpose too such as the variety of topics from sports talk radio, entertainment news to local-national-international news. It’s great to have a radio station but what type of music will you play?

Music that I like. You can sample it here if you want to:

Mostly new pop and some dance, but I have oddities like a viking version of Du Hast by SKALD and an epic orchestral version of Ozzy’s Crazy Train.

Just use a free domain/hosting platform that has drag and drop functionalities.

Years ago when seo was easily gameable i had like 6 different sites for local traffic targeting. And the subdomain game was pretty good too. Now its all google places/reviews thats most important for local stuff. I also made multiple google places locations early on as well, you just sent google cards to friends places or other addresses google would let you send the card to and voila ‘new location’ lol. Fun to play the marketing games when your competitors havent realised it yet.

I published my first website in the 2004. I have used Site Spinner software for my websites, which is very logical and userfriendly to use. I also run two phpbb forums. And I run Reason Radio on the second one. My websites are: www.reflexion-x.com and www.reasonheads.com
