I promise, only two polls today. No getting carried away . Just saw an topic on AI in another thread and thought I would get your opinions.
Would you live with or without AI if you could?
- Keep it
- Live without it
- Positive
- Negative

I have limited knowledge of most aspects of AI but ChatGPT has helped me so much already that I had to vote in favor of it. I’ve caught it in a couple of errors but for the most part it’s very useful.
I use Chat-GPT every day. Its like Google on steroids lol
The reason I started this thread was the thread on job loss to AI…..so there are both positive and negative aspects of it.
But I also think it will likely be a net positive in the long run, as painful as it might be for some.
AI is not necessarily the issue— it’s how people are utilizing and implementing it that is the problem.
I suppose it’s fine for finding the best recipe for chocolate cake or directions or something.
But to replace actual humans in the workforce with this sort of nascent technology is wild to me.
The loss of jobs is kind of staggering already, and AI hasn’t even reached its full potential yet.
I just don’t know how helpful something can be if it is taking away gainful employment from real people.
It should be used as a tool— not as the ends to a means, in my personal opinion.
steps off soapbox
Would I do away with AI? No… I think it’s potentials are profound.
Do I think AI is safe or wise to pursue as a mechanism for profit generation by a very small percentage of individuals. Absolutely not.
They’re jumping head first into the deep end. It’s like a competition of who holds their breath for longest… All pledging to get to the deepest depths fastest.
Neural networks make sense structurally, but operationally they are impossible to comprehend… I guess that’s a valid similarity to the brain.
I would prefer more simplified, task specific, limited implementations of AI.
If the science around it actually existed before the products I might feel more comfortable… but these products are experiments being deployed into the world in realm time. We are the guinea pigs.
I’ve been having fun making it paint pictures, but I generally don’t like it in its current form.
I don’t agree with using it as therapy. MASSIVE TRIGGER WARNING:
I think it’ll end up being much like the dot com bubble in the nineties. There will be, and are, huge predictions about AI becoming a cataclysm. But what is asinine about this, is not the technology itself, but the lack of perspective. Throughout human existence, there has been advancements to promote the general welfare of civilization, but the key in determining the abject failure of such a technology, is, without a doubt, it’s persistent implication.
Internet, was and is like this. Huge advantages, but also disadvantages, like the relative easy access to the dark web. It’s demeanor hasn’t changed all that much, but the market stabilizer of the invisible hand has brought Internet back into the common vernacular of investments again. It seems inauspicious as we all use the Internet, and I think that general meekness is fraudulent of history.
I’m probably rambling right now because I’ve had a bad day, but essentially my post was to give perspective on past and current advancements, and see where popular culture really started to implement itself into it. AI is essentially the new Internet.
I’m an optimist when it comes to technology most of the time (excluding weapons) so i think it’s a good thing. But overall there have been a lot of mental health reports about it being dangerous which kinda does make me feel for us guys, as in us guys with psychotic illness
Things still suck with AI. Unless it can turn into a woman and massage my back it does very little for me. I read doz books kid. Word up, son.
Chat GPT helps me, but I hate it takes jobs away.
They take away people’s jobs and call them lazy for being unemployed. Or they say learn a new skill and start over. When you’re nearing retirement? REALLY?
AI needs a heavy, HEAVY usage tax with funds distributed to Universal Basic Income. Making using AI more expensive than using a human.
I’ve been using it to help write code. It’s very good at it.
For me it’s all about proper prompts. You can get it to explain anything if you know what you’re doing. My Googling skills are finally paying off.
It’s just a glorified web browser
It’s also derailing sites like stack overflow where people use AI instead of posted on forums and collaborating with others to fix issues
It has advantages, but the potential for abuse is enormous. Like faking news, or swindeling people.
Somehow I feel it should be regulated. Some parts of it shouldn’t be available to the masses.
Its the same as anything?
Is science good or bad?
Depends how it is used.
Hopefully AI is used well
Youre right. It depends how it is used. And how its regulated.
It will almost certainly create a higher concentration of wealth for many those that are already wealthy because of reduced costs due to replacement of employees, unless really strict regulations are put in place.
On the other hand, if regulations are too strict , you are likely to stifle advancements in the field.
I think I come down somewhere in the middle. You need to regulate to some degree to limit job impact but not in areas where it is going to stifle advancement……or at least in a limited amount where its going to stifle growth in the field.
To me, it seems like a complex balancing act that needs to be played and I hope that the powers that be are up for the task.
I really think that it has the potential to do great things in the future if its done right.
