Hi, recently started escitalopram 10mg and I had a real struggle getting off in the morning. I loat my erection several times and wasnt as pleasurable as before. Is thia from SSRI? If so will it be forever while im on it? I am thinking stopping taking because of that
Some medications cause sexual dysfunction. I have lived with it for over 10 years. I have decided to try to switch medication for various reasons, and this is one of them.
Yes, it could be from the AD and it could last.
I take saffron against depression at the moment. It is said (based on research) to work as well as an AD. I think it is supposed to counteract sexual problems, also those caused by ssri. Do check with the pdoc though. Check especially if you want to take them together. Saffron influences serotonin too, dont want to get weird interactions.
Im also trying to change my diet and exercise regime…This supposedly helps against depression too, naturally.
I also have sexual dysfunction because of meds. I don’t know which med is responsible, I take many meds

What does your pdoc say? How are you without? Did you try alternatives, like therapy or the things i mentioned above?
Ive tried wellbutrin before and was much worse on it. I also tried new AD - trintellix and it was also bad on me. I am taking depakote which helps a lot. The problem is that i am suicidal without SSRI. I am taking escitalopram for 4 days so far.

Hey. When I had sexual dysfunction from meds, my doctor prescribed Buspar to counteract the effects. It didn’t work for me, but we have different anatomy so it might work for you.

I understand… I guess suicidality is worse than sexual problems. But sexual problems can be troublesome too. It is common with ssri’s.
Whatever you try, i hope you find something that helps.
I’m on escitalopram too, my pdoc told me that it could delay the ejaculation.
How long are you on it? Dont you find it frustrating?

6 years, personally I don’t have sexual side effects I can ejaculate in 1 minute if I want.
It makes me a bit restless and I feel like I can’t hold my pee though.
On which dose are you?

I was on 20mg most of the time, now I’m on 10mg.
Yes, i have sexual dysfunction too from SSRI(paroxetine). I have decided to live with it cuz most meds are not perfect and have side effects. You have to make trade offs as to which side effect you r gonna live with it.

My friend has sexual dysfunction from Citalopram. Its why he often stops his meds on his own. Not suggesting it but he doesn’t have psychosis or depression, just social anxiety, so not serious.

What AD medication doesnt cause ED?
Not many. Wellbutrin and another one that I forgot its name, it was on Wikipedia. I think those that don’t act on serotonin have no sexual side effects.

Its a funny thing that wellbutrin actually caused worse ED on me than SSRI. Also trintellix also wasnt good
