To people who have tried both, which did you prefer and why?
I think the thought of getting injections scares me because if I’m having terrible side effects there isn’t a pill I can just stop taking, it’s stuck in my system for x amount of time.

I find I get less side effects from my depixol depot compared to tablets. Problem is if you do get side effects from a depot, like you say, you are stuck with them for a while.
Often they will start up with really small injections to test for side effects.
I am very bad at remembering to take pills which is why I’ve considered injection.
I prefer injections cause some times I get a wild hair that says “don’t take ur meds, ur fine, it’s better without them…” but they don’t have an injection of clozipine so I’m stuck with pills…
i prefer pills. I was on invega injection and I didn’t like the way it made me feel. I was hyper the whole time I was on it. took about three months for it to wear off.
I’ve only ever used tablets. I almost always have nasty side effects from APs so I’d hate to be stuck with them for s long!
They usually start patients on tablets before switching them to the injections.
If there is some kind of negative reaction then the switch to injections is not made.
There’s less side effects with injection. I like injection better bc it’s once every two weeks and no pills to take.
Is anyone on a zyprexa injection?
I was on the Abilify injection (Maintena) before I started my generic aripiprazole tabs, and I like the pills better, for more than one reason. The injection costs a lot more and I have to pay to go see the doctor every month. I was worried I would forget to take my pills but what if I miss my doc appointment for some reason? Also, I was getting akithesia with the injection and I don’t have it when I take the pills. My doctor told me the curve of how much is in your system goes a lot higher in the beginning with the injection.
My understanding of injections is that they are for people who are incapable of remembering to take their meds or non compliant. It’s more of a punishment. I choose to take mine in the pill form which enhances my illusion of control over the illness.
I take Risperdal Consta injections. The pills didn’t work as well for me. But, that is not why my pdoc switched me to the shots. He switched me due to intractable constipation from the pills. The improved psychosis control was just an added benefit of the shots.
why did you only get constipation from the pills if it’s the same med? o.o
I’ve seen plenty of people choose the injections because of the convenience of not having to worry about daily pills, plus the fact that the ride is smoother - no daily fluctuations based on when they take their meds. But every person is going to react differently.
Main difference seems to be how evenly spread out across the day/night that the effects and side effects are.
When I was on the aripiprazole injection the restlessness was spread more evenly across time. Good part is that therefore not as unbearably restless during the day, bad part but more restless at night and therefore worse sleep compared to taking the pills in the morning
For some reason, I don’t know why, the injections don’t cause as severe constipation as the pills do. That’s a fact. That’s the way it works for me anyway.
I prefer pills, mostly if I have the odd day I really need to be on the ball, I can skip a day with no worries
The injections don’t affect how “with it” I am.
They do for me, feel tired all the time on them
My Fitbit is programmed to buzz when my meds are due. They make me tired, but I need them.
