Income protection insurance

Any SZ that has this? @shutterbug maybe something you familiar with.

Yes, I do. I get paid 75% of my former income. The policy only lasts five years though so after that I either have to get a job or go on disability.

Generally familiar, but I’m not licensed for that type of insurance (I have a “General” license in five provinces). Mainly what I know is:

  1. It gets more expensive and less available as you age.
  2. Pre-existing medical conditions that could trigger the policy responding it are generally excluded.
  3. It might pay out well for up to five years, will likely flip to a lower disability amount after a small period of years, and generally discontinues entirely at retirement age.

No idea how this functions outside of Canada. We regard American insurance as very strange. Hope this is helpful?
