I'm still an addict

Anyone here addicted to sleeping pills? It was a huge problem for me. It was nice to walk around half-awake…but negative symptoms smashed me up. I quit smoking right after my second time at hospital. I keep thinking about pills from time to time, but switched to other addictons though.

I avoided sleeping pills for that very reason.

Glad you’ve put that behind you.

I coped with my PTSD-and-genetics-induced bipolar mental “screech” with a menu of addictions for about two decades. Frantic activity, exercise, workaholism, sex, romance, drugs, booze, what have you. They all “worked” (sort of), but the mental car that at best ran on eight-sided wheels, was down to five and six – and headed for four – after a while. Booze and drugs had side effects I could no longer tolerate, so I took my frantic activity into AA and got off the sauce. But I was still wired and (as the textbooks put it) “stimulus obsessed” and driving the car into various walls. Depakote and Trileptal didn’t do much, but low-dose Seroquel has helped a lot (for about 11 years now), though S didn’t =totally= “handle” it. So I got into psychology and finally found the mindfulness-based cognitive psychotherapies like dialectical behavior therapy, acceptance & commitment therapy, mindfulness-based stress reduction (all in workbooks), and the ten steps of emotion processing (observe > notice > recognize > acknowledge > accept > own > appreciate > understand > digest the emotions > transcend the emotions and the thoughts related to them). I’m still given to exercising too hard now and again, but everything else is pretty much down to manageable levels if not just gone altogether. Life’s less “exciting,” of course, but my head isn’t ragging on me all the time.

the best drug by far :+1:

i always say i like to get "high on life’

SADLY, SLEEPING PILLS ARE ONE OF THE FEW SUBSTANCES I’VE DEVELOPED AN ADDICTION TO, POSSIBLY DUE TO AN ADVERSE REACTION ONCE WITH THEM. WELL AT LEAST I’VE LOST A LITTLE WEIGHT…RDISHAWJ
