My depression is not getting any better either.
Talk to a psychiatrist about it.
With me, I’m usually just parroting a negative parent. Then it’s just a bad habit. Catch yourself thinking a negative thought before you voice it or act on it. Then you can substitute a better thought.
I’ve gone completely negative recently. I don’t know if it’s seasonal or too much coffee. Or if I’m just getting worse in general.
There’s a book about Mental Diet that I can’t remember the name. Anthonny Robbins talks about this book. The book challenges you to have positive thoughts for a period of time.
One of my old bosses made all the managers meet once a week and tell her the best thing that had happened to us in the past week. We hated it. We could never think of anything good.
But we knew every week we were going to be asked and so we would spend the week on the lookout for things we could say when she called on us at our meeting.
It was kind of genius, really. After a few weeks or so of it, we all started really noticing nice things happening to us, because we had trained ourselves to do so. It changed my personality and it’s a skill I still have years later - look for the good things and notice and remember them when they happen.
I tried to get a thread for this started a few times here, but I’m no one’s boss and can’t make anyone do anything, and they tend to fizzle out. But if you cam find someone to hold you accountable for reporting good things in your life, it will probably help you a lot.
When I try to be positive, I’m afraid I’ve been had. Does any one remember Andy Rooney on 60 minutes? He made a career out of noticing negative things and he was really pretty likeable.
I let thought’s pass in my head and focus on forgetting them like a soldier when friends die in d war don’t think o God, what now! Block it!! Think OK , say men, let’s move!!!
