I'm interested in the History of Schizophrenia

Having this illness it helps to know that we are not alone and that individuals all over the world have been battling this illness for thousands of years.

Please share any interesting resources you have of accounts of mental illness or the history of mental illness.

This site is here but a lot of the links are in Chinese/Japanese. That is strange!

I’d suggest visit the local library and read one of the histories of psychiatry. It’s a pretty interesting read and it wasn’t that long ago in the scheme of things where it was pretty brutal for all concerned.

It’s a mystery 15151515

I would do that if I were back home in America. No local library here in Thailand.

Not sure of the online reserves but search medical textbooks. Probably of interest is Asylums, thorazine and the mental wards. Crackpot theories like labotomies and other treatments are worth while a look. I’m sure it’s out there but just don’t usually search for such things.

I’ve read some histories of psychiatry and it’s interesting. Lot’s of rubbish and damage from people like Freud. Really good things like the discovery of lithium and antipsychotics.
