I'm I doom to have another psychosis episode since I had one already?

At the psych ward the doctor told me if I take medication for one year I might not have another episode.

I’ve not gone psychotic for over two decades and take my meds religiously. I do get breakthroughs but have avoided psychosis so it’s possible for sure.

Does he mean that you havent been diagnosed schizophrenic yet? Some people have one bout of psychosis and take meds for a while then get off them and arent bothered by psychosis for the rest of their lives. But on the other hand, those who have multiple episodes generally are diagnosed and are recommended to take meds for life.

No. You are not.

It is possible that you need medication for life. In which case recovery with meds is still possible.

It is also possible that you can solve the underlying causes. And can have recovery without longterm meds. And can come off one day - very slowly.

I disagree with your psychiatrist - there is not a set time to be on meds. It is rather what you do in the time on meds to solve the problems. I had many psychoses. I’m off meds for a year now, and cannot use them any more. I had a few rough times since quitting. But I’m still alive. And I finally get help solving the underlying stuff…so things are really improving still. After being sick for many years. When I finally got real help, I started to improve.

What is underneath for you? E.g trauma, drugs? Do you get help with that?

If you are medication compliant you can go for a very long time before another psychotic break. I got diagnosed in 2015 and its 2023 and while I have since been diagnosed with some sort of schioaffective-bipolar 1 with psychotic features sort of condition, I’ve been religiously med compliant, and had no further complete melt downs.

Its possible that I’m not quite on the worse front of this illness spectrum, so I can only say take that with a grain of salt, but reducing stress, sleeping well, can go a long way to keeping you feeling pretty decent.

I have become dependent on meds

I have only gone a day without them at times

I get to nervous and psychotic and can tell the next day how they put me back on track to staying out of psychosis and anxiety

The day I dont take them my negative symptoms might slightly lesson but I start to go into psychosis

I thought my psychosis started from stress from work, but I was also severely sick with a cold that made my body weak to the point I lost 50 percent of my strength, then my positive symptoms started to show up while having this cold.

That is precisely what I was told.

I stopped taking my meds after a year. 2 years later I ended up psychotic in hospital.

Well, I went 10 years without a psychosis. And the second one happened cos I was taken off meds.
