I'm considering graduate school

While I was in the hospital the psychiatrist I saw was incredible. Highly intelligent and kind of pedantic in language use but he SAW me and knew me so well from what little we talked. He told me i have the highest IQ of any schizophrenic patient he has seen and recommended grad school. He said the stimulation is what i need and what will make me happier and i agreed.

So now I’m trying to figure out what i want. I took Philosophy as my undergrad major with minors in native American studies, music, and religious studies. So I’m considering continuing philosophy. I’m just worried about all the reading and writing, as much as I love philosophy I’m not sure I can handle it. But i might just be undermining my abilities.

He also told me that I would be a great asset to philosophy because I not only logically question reality but do so from experience

Thats awesome! You should do it.

I wish i had a pdoc that encouraging, mine actually DIScouraged grad school because he thought I couldnt handle it. Im out to prove him wrong

I hope you decide to do this. It would make all your schooling worthwhile and also doing something that seems like your passionate about.
Secondly it would give all the rest of us hope that we can pursue our dreams. And of course we would all be your biggest fans and buy all your books

Good luck if you decide to go ahead with it.

I recommend physics if you want to not only question reality, but discover it, and really get to know the inner workings of things. Thoughts on simulation theory?

I agree though. Grad school would be great if that’s what you want to do.

I had a psychiatrist (lovely lady) tell me I’m practically too dumb for physics and math and that I should be an engineer or programmer lol. She said my IQ was roughly 110 based on how I spoke and talked.

I tried physics in my undergrad and really couldnt get the hang of it. By simulation theory you mean we are living in a simulation?

My psychiatrist said I was around 130 but I dont see how they can know from short conversations

Yes. An actual computer.

I think theres something in reality that exists without being contingent on a computer working. Being in itself. It’s fun to think about though. If it’s a simulation, the graphics are amazing :stuck_out_tongue:

What career would you do with a doctorate in philosophy? Any ideas yet?

Don’t worry man I know first hand how that feels! I been told by a psychiatrist I was retarded because my IQ was 70 or something like that, LOL. @Froge I think it is awesome you are considering grad school, I wish I was smart enough, but I guess nothings impossible. Anyways best of luck. I love philosophy especially books from Friedrich Nietzsche.

Good luck with grad school! That’s on my list as well. I have to get straight a’s whenever I’m sane cuz my grades take a dip whenever I have an episode. I really wish I could have gotten through school before my onset started. Would you go to a masters program or jump to a phd?

“I think, therefore, I am.”

Depends on which school I go to. The one closest to me only has a ph. D program

This is good advice. Idleness is the real enemy.

If you still remember your undergrad work, you stand a chance. I have been graduated for 6 years now, and my knowledge is about my job now. I don’t have time for History and Sociology anymore. I have studied it and achieved my grades, and it has allowed me to get my job. That’s what pays the bills, and I don’t have the mental energy to focus on both.

Sounds like you have some options to think about.
