Mr Turtle is cutting me off codeine. He is doling out 5 per day for the next four days then expects me to go cold turkey on Friday.
I had my liver function blood test this morning. I made an appointment to see my GP on Friday to talk about this, not that I want to (this is at Mr Turtle’s insistence).
I phoned the helpline this morning and they referred me to face to face drug and alcohol counselling.
I’ve taken my five and I am going out of my mind turning the house upside down looking for the rest. You see I’m down to five from a minimum of 15. The most I ever took in one go was 25 and that was about my average.
He won’t tell me where they are. I just want some more, not many. I’ve done everything expected of me so far, I just want a few more.
No. I was a while ago for dental pain. But I kind of got hooked on it.
I was addicted to it about ten years ago. I don’t remember how I managed to quit back then. But I went ten years without touching the stuff.
Then a wisdom tooth started acting up and I took some for the pain. And all the memories of the rush it gives me came back to me. So I started taking more and more.
I am shamefully addicted again.
Please don’t judge me, I am already deeply ashamed of myself as it is.
@anon84763962. Can you try to get an emergency appointment with the drug rehab counselor? You should have a medical professional helping you with this. Take care of yourself.
Good luck. I almost got hooked on codeine for a while after my brain surgery. My doctor had to cut me off way too early because he could tell I was starting to get addicted. I hated that so much. Fifteen a day is very dangerous, especially if you’re taking the kind with Tylenol.
I know next to nothing about codeine but I know that withdrawals can be agonizing for some drugs. That’s obvious to everyone. My feeling tells me that a more careful withdrawal plan might be better, it might mitigate the pain to taper off slower. That’s stuff has been in your system for awhile and getting off it too abruptly might give you pain that you could actually avoid if you just went slower. This is just my opinion.
I have alot to say on this…pain killers were my self medication for a while…its all about moderation you can withdraw and limit yourself after and as long as you learned it sucks to withdraw you wont take too many…they feel good but they cant be the only reason you feel good…you know…
I take caffeine pills - two 200 mg pills a day. I think my addiction is more psychological than physical, though it seems like some bodily functions work better when I am on caffeine. Addiction is a ■■■■■■■■■■■■.
All the best @anon84763962. I used to have a problem with cough syrup that had codeine in it (although I appreciate this is prob not as serious as your situation).
I think it is happening to me now… I have a persistent gum pain and started taking cafetine ( codein+ paracetamol) daily and here I am now, not a day without that thing.
