I think college/university can make even normal healthy people depressed.
I’ve been to like one college only to get a diploma (Use to have 3.5+ CGPA then dropped to 2.66) and 2 colleges to drop out of degree from. I use to aim high and want to go to graduate school. Then, I watched a video on YouTube featuring billionaires like Mark Zuckerberg, and Elon Musk gesturing why a college degree is useless.
I’d like to get a degree though. If I do, it’s going to be through distance learning! I read that from a UK Schizophrenia help website that it is recommended (or suggested) to undergo distance learning due to the flexible hours and coping stress factors.
When I had my second psychotic break, in the days leading up to it, I had a hard time concentrating on the math in my college class and I had trouble keeping up.
Well, I ended up in the hospital and I had to drop my class when I came out, two weeks later, because I was hopelessly behind. And I had to take the class again in the next semester and I did great.
Just finish your degree as best you can. Don’t drop out – you’ll regret it! Get on sarcosine if you’re not on it already . . . it helps with motivation and improves mood. Also, talk to your doctors and say your meds aren’t right since you’re still depressed and barely functional.
And if you don’t go to grad school for caribbean religious anthropology . . . let’s be honest, there isn’t a huge job market for that anyway, so you will have saved time and money.
If you are 34 and not even done with undergrad, you would be almost 50 by the time you finish your PHD. Honestly I would go find a job at this stage. Or go for something more practical that would allow you to work with just a bachelors.
