Ideas for a brief, cheap road trip

So I’m figuring on taking another six-day vacation this October, going to have it coincide with the dates for two concerts I plan to attend, Oct 17 (dope, Static X, Sevendust) and Oct 22 (Mushroomhead). Anyway, it’s going to be half a staycation, keeping it very low budget this time.

I figure I’ll spend two nights in a hotel somewhere not too far from where I live in southeast Michigan. For my Michigan peeps, last October I stayed two nights in Traverse City. I’m willing to drive up to around five hours to my destination, so anyplace in lower Michigan is fair game, same for Ohio and Indiana, as well as parts of Kentucky. Chicago would be fair game, but I’d rather it be a peaceful rural or small town setting. I’ve never been to West Virginia, so I’m even considering going there, just would need to be near the Ohio line.

@Loke, I was just looking in maps, considering Huntington, Parkersburg, Wheeling, or anywhere thereabouts. The most important thing to me is that it be peaceful and scenic. I suppose to get more scenic I might need to go deeper into WV, but I don’t want to drive much farther than the Ohio line, considering that’s already driving around 300 miles each way. Anyway, if I was to take a brief vacation in that part of WV, where would you recommend?

Well, I’m also looking for ideas from any of the rest of y’all, not just @Loke.

Parkersburg is a nice little place. Huntington is a college town. I haven’t lived there in years so I don’t know what it’s like now. Honestly idk really any advice cos I’m not familiar with Wheeling really. I know there is a zoo there.
