I wouldn’t mind my doc to be AI if they are qualified.
What about robotic surgery?
I think they’ve been doing that now for a bit.
In the case of AI, maybe they’ll have it generate treatments, diagnosis, etc. based on symptoms, and then a human doctor will have the final say.
I don’t think it’s turning into The Jetsons just yet .
I think an artificial intelligence doctor would be great if it had the nuanced ability to understand speech to the degree that a human being does
Its easy to trust diagnosis right?
I think for psychiatrists it’s special because the human relationship matters.
There is a “sensitive” side to the relationship that I don’t think can be there when you talk to a machine.
Besides, the patient would surely behave very differently in front of a machine.
I would dare to say that the treatment also depends on the link that is established between the patient and his psychiatrist.
My concern with AI doctors is they may be trained with human bias…
At least AI can not make my afternoon coffee, I just made my coffee Also a robot can not take my blood sugar tests or measure my blood pressure.
I think it helps where people have to wait long to see a doctor or where seeing a doctor is expensive. But I think a human doctor should have the final say.
I was learning about AI and its impact. It seems that there were couple of AI revolutions which did not go well during second half and late 20th century which was based on Expert systems and Knowledge based AI. Now it is data driven AI more into machine learning and deep learning. Next AI is going to be Artificial general intelligence (AGI) which is similar to what a human can do. Now already AI has made its mark into whatever industry it is. If AGI comes, it is going interconnect everyone and everything in the planet. Unsure if it is safe or not. But certainly makes life more miserable for people who are millennials I guess.
AI doctors would not have human biases. They would not dismiss people’s symptoms based on race, gender, nor refuse to treat anyone based on beliefs.
I’d love it.
The thing is AI learns from humans so certain biases are likely to show up. Especially in things that are under diagnosed
I don’t want an ai bot doctor
@anon4362788 beat me to it. No AI doc is going to treat you differently because you happen to be a minority they dislike… and it happens a lot more than you might realize. The profession is far from immune to prejudice.
No, AI only learns language model. It doesn’t learn organically and since it has no emotions there’s no biased thoughts.
You can program one to behave like a bigot, sure.
How about AI that will lie?
I’m not a programmer. But there are always hacks and loopholes.
Humans wrote the things it would be learning from though. So therefore there might be bias
I doubt it, it would be obvious from the get go because AI doesn’t have emotions or ways to subtly hide things like that.
