Schizophrenia isn’t different enough for you?
Yeah schizophrenia kinda sums up a lot of my behaviour i guess , even though its hatd to wrap my head around any of it but a schizophrenia dx is enough i really don’t want autism as well
I see where people are coming from though… I think it’s a cry for warmth and sympathy… It IS less stigmatized judging by the bumper stickers and commercials.
I’m smart enough to ‘get’ that it starts in 2 year olds… so maybe that’s why it receives more sympathy/warmth.
I fear for the 18 month in the family because she’s not through the woods yet… just to add the human element in case @shutterbug finds me offensive on this take… Maybe I could’ve started with a question…
I don’t believe it starts in 2 year olds people are born with it.
Oh… You may be right I may have been working with anecdotal evidence a story once told to me by a father… thanks for your response.
Idk, my little nephew has autism and he’s speech delayed at 5 years old.
Honestly, I kind of find this thread offensive and inflammatory.
I agree its offensive. No one wants a disease, its nonsense.
I will add while autism is in the DSM it is a neurological difference and not a disease .
People are affected by it differently, different severities. Some are nonverbal others are hyper verbal.
I think it’s the trendy diagnosis right now, and that’s fine as long as we don’t open up too far what the spectrum is and bend up including everyone
I would like to have a diagnosis of autism because I believe I probably have it after doing a workshop on it.
I don’t understand what’s so offensive of me wanting to understand why I am the way I am. And how to cope better.
And get support where possible ![]()
I don’t think you meant to offend and I didn’t take it that way. I too wonder if I’m autistic. I don’t know if I should invest time in investigating it or not?
Anyway I don’t find the general communication of the thread to be offensive
It’s up to you yea… I personally want to buy a good book on it… To help me… If it resonates with me and helps me then why not, even if I don’t have the diagnosis just yet or ever.
anyone could have traits of autism and not know it
it a wide spectrum ,
I have autism and there’s barely anything good about it. Apart from the “high IQ” everything else is torturous. Socializing is so excruciating but you still need it and want it.
I think the original post makes it seem like you want to be autistic, not that you want to understand if you are autistic or not. I first read it as “I’m not autistic but I reacted to a couple things and want to be labeled as different” but I understand wanting to know if you are autistic or not because you already few different
Today at the workshop I got emotional because I felt like I finally had a label that will help me. We were watching a video at one point of an autistic person it was so relatable I was trying to stop myself from crying.
I mean I’m. Not diagnosed but it just resonated need to go 4 screening
I disagree with the labels society puts on others
we are more than labels
Labels can be limiting or they can be helpful. We all relate to it differently.
I feel like I might be on the autism spectrum, I did an online test that said I was. I would like to get tested. Maybe one day. I think that it is good that the workshop has helped you in some way.
imo labels are judging a person
I highly recommend it ![]()
