Autism for sure

Hey so i know this kind of post is frequently made and i dont know if its annoying but:
I am almost certain i am on the autism spectrum. I feel i have to be. I have every level 1 trait that i have ever heard about.
Pdocs in the past never understood what was going on with me. I mask so well that i have not been properly seen by drs.
Im seeing a gp in a couple days time. And im going to ask about seeing someone that can determine wether i have it or not.
I pretty much feel as if i ‘know’ that i am autistic. It seems unquestionable. Even my gf of almost 6 years whom i have spent nearly every day with thinks i surely am as well.
Any advice? Anyone have thoughts to share?
Thanks.

Currently having a bit of a shut-down/meltdown thing at the moment. So that influenced me in to making this post.

My friend keeps saying he thinks I’m Autistic. Which, he might be onto something. Not sure though…

Oh true. Does your friend know much about it?

He was tested for Autism. He’s not considered Autistic but some of the ways he presents himself seems like it. He always says I’m Autistic cause I say “Yeah…yeah…” a lot.

I personally think I might be Autistic but not in the way my friend puts it, but not sure.

Cause you say ‘yeah’ a lot? Haha. I say yeah way too much ay.
I also say ‘nah’ all the time. Its like a tic almost. I dont know how to not say it.

Right?! So I personally don’t think saying these things make you Autistic. Maybe like you said, it would be like a tic or something, but I feel like Autistic, while it is considered a broad spectrum, is a little more complicated than just saying “Yeah” twice. But I’m not an Behavioral Psychiatrist so what do I know?

Getting an autism diagnosis is like winning ten cents in the lottery. Nice to have, but good luck getting anywhere with it.

Yeah i understand that. No specific meds or anything really ay?
But im an answers guy. If there was some way to test for it and i had it. It would change my life somewhat. So much would make sense about myself!
And i am being realistic. I know having the diagnosis changes almost nothing in life practically speaking. But for my peace of mind!
I dunno.. it just seems so me.
And i in no way just ‘want’ to be labeled autistic for whatever reason. Like some fad or something. No way. I’d love to be a normal person that fits in and doesnt feel like im from a species other than human.

Sorry for the rant shutterbug.

I took a few online tests, and they all said I didn’t have autism.

Am I treated better? Without a doubt. Realistically though getting a dx of autism at 62 wasn’t going to undo the damage that had been done, by years of substandard treatment and clinical neglect . It was primarily, for me, about proving I wasn’t wrong in saying there was more going on than SMI. I can’t give enough credit to my daughter for the part she played in improving the way I’m treated , and helping re getting the ASD dx.

I think it speaks volumes that I haven’t undergone a dramatic change in personality , but have had zero clashes with mental health services in the near 8 years I’ve lived in Wiltshire. The worst that can be said, honestly and legitimately, is that I didn’t always react well to being treated badly when I lived in Essex. In that I’m no different to many other people, be they mentally ill or not.

All it did to me was a systematic reevaluation in my head that lasted weeks unpicking everything

That was not healthy

Plus here you get the diagnosis and then you are immediately cut loose even though you never got the support at school to help

Just because we got so far without a diagnosis doesn’t mean that we have it all figured out

Could do with at least a conversation

But no, they gave me a list of charities

Spoke to two and they said they were not taking on any more people and the others I tried no longer existed

It might be more useful if you live in a different setting than I do. It has made no difference for me professionally or pesonally. I am still in high-stress situations at work and at home when I remind my wife I am autistic she takes it as a challenge to plan another visit to her @#$%ing family.

You lead a far more high powered life than I do . I think that unfairly and unreasonably leads to what happens to so many people like you. It being presumed you’re doing too well to have problems.

You’re only saying that because you didn’t see me napping yesterday. My daughter’s cat went to sleep on my face and I didn’t notice enough to wake up.

At $2000+ bare minimum for a diagnosis it aint worth the 10 cents lol

Do you reckon it would be worth it at 31 years old like me?
