I will fight - if I am wrong I will lose and learn

You know what? My manager is making me angry and has denied my request to work from home when I live with two vulnerable adults 98 and 86… She says if I am that concerned I shouldn’t be coming in … However I am a keyworker not getting paid for the work I do not do… She is right, this is not her problem…I decided to return and saw others were working from home and requested and got denied saying there isnt enough laptops and everyone else in the office is happy with the social distancing in the office and come in and do not complain…

Well in that case, if everything is great, she does not need to work from home and take her own advice there is plenty of room in the office to sit in while social distancing…

It’s probably because shielding is ending on the 1st August.

My mother works for a marketing firm, and they have massive problems with people trying to get people to come in, even though risk assessments have been done etc to be Covid Secure.

A couple of people apparently took the furlough money and the top up salary the company gave them their notice to resign when they we asked to come back to work

“If you’re concerned than you shouldn’t come in” but refuses to let you work from home?? What an awful boss.

She said she can’t let me work 5 days so I agreed she wanted me to come Monday Tuesday and Friday. I took myself of job seekers and went. I wrote her and email explaining im not happy not being allowed to work from home. She said she’d rather talk to me in person than exchange emails. I wrote back saying you’ve been working from home everyday except Thursday so I haven’t been able to speak to you in person … I’m happy to come in just to see you in the office on my day off. Not that rudely put but you get the point. my partner said say it even if it sounds passive aggressive … i mean she’s happy with the social distance in the office … she don’t need to be home 4 days a week then … she’s needed in the office

Its a problem and the irony is they couldn’t furlough me even though its the civil service and against policy…

That sucks.

I missed out on furlough too as I quit my old job on 9th March

Yes it is especially hypocritical to demand your workers come in and put their health and their family’s health at risk when you are staying safe at home. I hope you can work something out

Her argument is im zero hours and not permanent and she doesn’t even have to give me hours to come in and mighr not be needed in the coming months as she had to hire 4 staff whilst some of us were off

So basically she’s saying “you’re disposable and you can either come in and risk you and your loved ones getting sick or I’ll get rid of you and find someone who will do it”

Horrible

she said i signed up for this and if im not happy I should go find a perm job
.
She has a point … but doesn’t explain some of the double standards

I am sure you did not sign up for being forced to come in and expose yourself during a pandemic. I am sure that was not written in your contract.

I really don’t understand why certain jobs require people to come in when they can easily do all their work from home.

She said others are happy with the office arrangements and have nlt complained and there is social distancing in the office… she argues im allowed to sit anywhere away from people… on my first day back its a Thursday and she being in the office every Thursday so she sits right next to me to show me things… OK so this is the social distancing … and as she’s fine with that why be at home… but im gonna not mention because I need to choose words wisely

Well maybe your other coworkers don’t take corona as seriously or don’t have family that could be put at risk.

I still very much think she is in the wrong. Right now all employees who can work from home should have the option to work from home if needed.

Exactly I work 4 to 5 hours for health reasons she said at the beggining of the pandemic that the only way to work frpm home is to commit 6 hours and bring laptop back if not working…which is not possible when shielding…so i refused and now the shielding is over but my grandmother is still vulnerable…i cannot afford to live off welfare

She has no right to tell me if I cares that much I shouldn’t come to work when the week the lockdown gets announced she decides to go abroad to a covid risk zone

My only idea is to go over her head though that carries its own risks. Depends if you can relay your thoughts to an upper official who still has a heart which is hard to find these days in the business world.

I risk getting sackrd but ill fight… when she said no to my request I started including her manager saying I’d like to speak to someone who will be able to authorise this

You might want to include human resources as well. Don’t know what employee protections there are in the UK but you may as well talk to someone there who can give you an honest set of options.

I’ve had my share of bosses so I know how you feel.
