Awaiting to work from home but they've asked me to come in

… to get the laptop. I have been panicking over this. I said I will try and get a lift to collect it but I want to collect from outside the gates if possible not go into the building and collect from reception. Am I being unreasonable? Am I being paranoid and overly caustious? This is sending my anxiety levels through the roof. My manager must think I must be mental to ask this. But then again, she just returned from a week long trip to Bali and is self isolating for two weeks. If I get it I am not concnerned but more concerned of passing it on to my grandmothers, one who is 98

Yeah, @anon80629714, sounds like your manager is being pretty reasonable. Don’t sweat the small stuff!

She wants me to collect it from the office. I am not willing to go into the office. I am not willing to even go into the building. But I want to collect it from outside where the security gates are.

i think you will feel better if you can work butits just getting it for you, what about asking a friend to pick it up for you and leave it at your doorstep? can you trust anyone to do that? you could give them something for helping you out later on, just thinking out loud.

It doesn’t work like this when you work for a government department they cannot ask a friend to drop it off unfortunately… lots of data security issues…

can they deliver it? the postal service is still running i think

yeah that was the goal, but now she said that she’ll deliver the monitor but i have to collect the laptop…

i thought the laptop had a built in monitor lol

We have a laptop and two monitors usually. But they will only give one laptop and a monitor…

i gues you could have 2 screens open at one time on the laptop and toggle between them maybe

I brought all my work home when the government issued a stay at home order. Why did you leave it there?

I didnt leave it there . I was not well for three weeks so did not go in … i wanted to go back end of week two and made plans to , but then they issued this warning … the manager was on a holiday to indonisia and got back this weekend … so now trying to get hold of this laptop to work … its my own fault for not going in sooner but i wasnt ready

That’s too bad. We are not allowed to go in the office right now and I do have all my files but I can’t print. I can check my voicemail from the office and emails and do that about once an hour or so. But other than that I am mostly watching tv and being paid for 8 hours a day.

If they are going to pay you I would go and get it. Just be really careful. Wear gloves and a mask if you have it and don’t touch your face and then wash up.
