I was finally admitted to the group Home charity

A Supervisor from the Mental illness charity I applied to came over to visit me in my Fathers Home today.
I basically filled a lot of paperwork and got instantly accepted.
My brother is a board member so I am getting VIP treatment from them.
I was assigned a personal Counselor who will be visiting me at the House and He will be giving me rides to different places, like my Drs appointments, grocery shopping etc…
I am on the waiting list to be placed in a nice group home or apartment - but this may take months.
The charity organization organizes different social events and can take me to different Volunteer jobs.

I am really excited about everything and can’t wait to start.

When I was in my twenties I stayed with my folks because they didn’t have places that looked good to me . . . It wasn’t great staying with my folks.

Seems like this opportunity looks great.

I guess we haven’t really talked to eachother, and probably it’s the first time you hear from me, but from what I’ve been reading from you I must tell you that I felt a big relief reading this. Glad that you managed to get away from your father :+1:

Well I will be staying with my father until they place me in a group home, but at least now I will have access to a pretty big support system and I will be closely monitored
I am glad that they will be visiting me at my fathers house frequently.
It feels safer now.

Oh this is such a huge relief! I’m so pleased you will have a counsellor come everyday to your father’s house. I hope the wait for a new home or apartment isn’t long.

Read it in a hurry, sorry. It’s a huge improvement anyhow

I hope the group home isn’t what I found when I looked into a group home…very unclean and the mentally ill there all looked unstable…scared my mom so bad she let me live with her until I could get an apartment. Please visit the group home before you commit.

Wow, that’s wonderful!! So happy for you

I would give anything if I could stumble upon something like that for my son. He probably wouldn’t be receptive to it though. He is currently in a group home – it’s not very nice. He came off his injection in May and was doing drugs and ended up in the hospital for a week. Things were sooo bad with him living with me and hubs that he could not come back here. First time in 7 yrs we haven’t let him come back home after hospitalization.

He’s been there a little over a month now and has quit doing drugs. He’s only taking 20 mg Abilify and seems a little better but still very delusional. I can’t talk him into trying other meds that might help him improve

Congratulations. Group homes can be one of the best stepping stones for a sz. My ex husband did REALLY well at a home in Monsey NY for quite some time. Unfortunately, he decided to move out and get his own apartment. No med supervision. Lost everything again. I hope this works out well for you.

Group homes can be good or bad. I’ve been in mine for 12 years and it is great. Hope you find a good one.
